The purpose of this study was to see if there was a coherence in personality traits and major depression. The data came from same-sex twin pairs, because the number of opposite sex pairs seemed to be too small. There were 44,112 completed questionnaires turned in. Over half of the questionnaires turned in were white females, over the age of 18. The total percentage of major depression in this study was 32%. The personality trait that correlated most with major depression was neuroticism. The least was conscientiousness, which mean to be careful and vigilant. All of the models showed a rate of .59 of major depression being hereditary. The weakest correlations were between A, O, and E. The confidence intervals for A and E both turned out to be zero. There was only one instance that the environmental correlation was larger than the genetic correlation, and that was in E. After all of these models were examined, it showed that there was 53% effect on the N group and major depression. The effect was a genetic one, rather than an environmental effect. There was a 29%
