I was born in a strictly religious family and am the oldest of my siblings. Naturally, everything I do is greatly scrutinize to teach my siblings a lesson. I am the “trial kid”, the one that set the standard and the example. It should be use as a model, not as a requirement to survive on this earth. This is the reason why young adults are declining in religion at an alarming rate.
Statistics shows that 96% of youth drop out of church upon graduating high school! That is incredibly sad and a jaw dropping fact. Among the reasons why avoid religion or church, many youths stated that work, moving to college, and wanting a break from the church is simply why they avoid it at all cost. Personally, I am one of the 4% who still attend church whether or not I’m in the company of my parents. To me, it’s a sacred ritual at which I have the opportunity to give thanks and ask God for more favors. Although I attend mass on a regular basis, I can see why avoid it. As a full time student with twenty credits, I am deeply involved in my study. Moreover, I am the secretary of the Church council at mass and a student senator at College of Saint Mary. Considering all this, I have to somehow find a way to pay my tuition without getting involve in loans. This leaves me with two options: work-study and an outside job. I’m doing both! The only time I have for my outside job as a nursing aide is on the weekends. On top of this all, I need to find time to share with my family and friends; this doesn’t leave much room for religious activities. I know of many students in the same situation who are also involve in sports. I’ve pondered on many occasions if I could skip Church and religious time to add extra hours at work or finish my school
