Upon taking the fundamentals of personal wellness course, it has provided me with numerous assessments and an abundance of information to help me better understand my current state of health and how to improve it. Included, are the various dimensions of health, other than just the commonly thought, physical fitness and nutrition. Across the eight dimensions of health; physical, social, emotional, environmental, occupational, financial, intellectual, and spiritual, I was able to assess where my level of wellness lands in each dimension by honestly reflecting on current habits. In the first lab, 1.1, I was able to select numbered answers for each statement based on whether I always or rarely do that particular action. Followed by tallying …show more content…
This lab illustrated that my strongest area in maintaining healthy behaviors is through my physical wellness. Although I do not always get adequate sleep nor participate in the recommended amount of daily exercise, however, I hold fairly good eating habits by consuming a good portion of fruits and vegetables, and less fast food. Additionally, I avoid tobacco, illegal drugs, and rarely consume alcohol. On the other hand, my weakest dimension is financial wellness. By taking on additional jobs during breaks, and continuing to excel throughout college in order to attend graduate school, receive a degree and certification so that I am able to land a full time job, will stabilize my …show more content…
In particular, it is important to analyze my current diet, including nutritional habits, considering my own view of my body image, and becoming aware of potential risks for developing cardiovascular disease. After considering my current fitness level and formulating a plan with a reward system to get back in shape, I then analyzed my diet by keeping a food diary. Upon looking over my food diary, with the help of my Fitbit app, I was able to use lab 8.1 to analyze my calorie intake, my intake of fat, sodium, cholesterol, empty calories, and more. After the calculations were completed, I first looked at my total amount of calorie intake, based on off my age, height, sex, and activity level. With that, I was shocked to discover that I actually consumed fewer calories than what is recommended. Specifically, I intake an insufficient amount of fiber, protein, and sodium, but on the other hand, my fat intake was over the recommended amount. This in itself, opened my eyes in realizing that I need to also look into specific ways to improve my diet, which tends to go hand in hand with exercising and physical

During the 5 day food diary, I consumed 1239 calories on average and the NCP-O recommends I consume 1860 calories, so I need to increase my total calorie intake by 621 calories in order to meet the recommendations. I was happy, however, to find out that I am not exceeding my calorie intake, especially since I am a sedentary person and that could easily lead to weight gain. Since my foods are mainly home cooked and are coming from nutrient dense and fresh sources like veggies, fruits, nuts etc. and not energy dense sources like sweets, sodas and junk food, I am satisfied with my overall diet. However, I need to reduce my intake of red meats and remove processed meats from my diet as a preventative measure against chronic diseases such as diabetes and cancers as they do run in my family history.…

In this Wellness Recovery Action plan nutrition is just as important than exercising. As shown in Appendix D the Daily Food Diary (Davis et al., 2008), it lists the foods I eat daily to maintain a healthy diet. Each day I work on maintaining a 1300 total calorie intake per day to reduce weight. I am 45 years old, fortunately I am overweight, since I’ve started eating healthier this past year I’ve lost 21 pounds. The best approach to weight control is to reduce your daily food intake and burn as calories by increasing exercise (Davis et al., 2008).…

Nutrition plays an enormous rule in our everyday lives, but unfortunately it is over looked by a vast majority of the world. Over the last couple of weeks, my classmates and I tracked our daily intake; everything we consumed had to be logged. In doing this I got the opportunity to look at my daily nutrition values. I used an application on my cell phone called MyFittnessPal, which calculated what my ideal intake should be based off of my height, weight, age, sex, and activity level. I came in under in many of the different stats and came in high on some others.…

The health assessment shows that I am healthy and aware of the importance of my behaviors, so I think I need to keep it up. For physical health, I engage in jogging every day for about an hour, 30 minutes after lunch and 30 minutes after dinner. I usually do that 5-6 times a week, and I also guarantee that I sleep at least 8 hours every day. I always check the clock before I sleep and I give myself 9 hours 30 minutes total on the bed. 30 to 45 minutes for relaxing and about 10-15 minutes for myself to ponder and recognize what to do in a day when I get up.…

In the textbook, “Understanding Your Health”, I took a self-assessment that examined my health behavior. I scored a 559 overall, which meant that I had a relatively adequate health behavior. However, I think my score of 559 was on the lower side of the relatively adequate health behavior since the points ranged from 550 to 569. I was actually very close to the low health behavior score, which ranged from 330 to 549, as I was only 10 points away from a low health behavior score. This means that I should be more cautious about my lifestyle and try to make improvements in which I could live a more fulfilling and healthy life.…

The calculated goal intake for carbohydrates in anywhere in the range of 1134-1639 calories, and my intake was 1087 calories. My value could be low possibly from the fact that I don’t normally eat large entrees that are high in carbohydrate content (i.e. pasta dishes etc) and would rather balance my meals with fruits, vegetables, and some sort of protein source. My other values for protein and fat intake were in range, with protein being more balanced, and my fat intake being on the higher end of the scale. The higher amounts of fats in my diet was alluded to in my calories and fat report, because my fat intake was equating to be 35% of my caloric intake, which is the limit of the range. If my fat intake increases by 68 calories or 7.5 grams, then this will put my intake above the goal range.…

For one day, the only thing I had to eat was black coffee in the morning and then 3 slices of pizza at night.
