Introduction
A principle is “a fundamental truth or proposition serving as the foundation for a believe or action” (Oxford English Dictionary, 2014). When service users are looking for care, they feel ashamed sharing personal and private information and this makes them to be in a vulnerable situation. Health and social care professionals must know how to response appropriately in this cases and values and principles are the limits of the acceptable in terms of moral in a society (Liementani, 1999). This means everybody has to have same rights and opportunities but considering peoples have different needs and wishes that must be respected. It is important to apply it in the health and social care work as it guides to treat service users fairly and respecting their own cultures and backgrounds. In this case, personal and professional values run in the same direction. Professional values and principles needed to work in health and social care are learned in colleges or universities or through trainings. Depending on the background people develop different values resulting from the observation of the family, friends, school and general society attitude. Values are learned through all life. Each person build her own values scale, so each person prefer some values than others and that makes his identity, guiding their choices and decisions. Values have an important role determining our professional goals. Health and social care professionals develop their professional values during their integration in the profession, for example, when they are studying or doing an apprenticeship. Personal values should be coherent with the professional values required in health and social care. According to the Royal College of Nursing (2008) the most important principles in health and care practice are quality, accountability, equality and partnership. Personal values must consolidate these professional principles, which will contribute to provide a quality
