Personal Narrative: What Made Me To Be Who I Am Today

Improved Essays
As my high school years seem they are rapidly coming to an end, I am faced with the seemingly never-ending process of personal statements for college. As I sat down to write my first essay, I was faced with a question which deceivingly seemed all too easy to answer which was; What has brought me to this point, how did I get to be who I am today? Immediately following this question my mind races through a vast amount of memories beginning as early as preschool up until what time I decided to go to sleep the night prior. Although as I seem to comb through my early childhood and teenage memories with a fine toothed-comb I am struck with the realization that not one moment in my life has defined me. I am a complex eighteen-year-old made up of an extensive amount of experiences (either good or bad), and not one “thing” has ever defined me. I have a broad amount of talents and aspects that make up who I am, all that have developed beginning from my early childhood. There have been many …show more content…
I have learned that for me, being intelligent may not come as easily as it does for my peers, but regardless of this I will work hard to accomplish my goals. My freshman year of high school and the events prior to the beginning of my high school career have taught me that I am much more than just my academics, I am also my talents and morals. It has been slowly throughout my high school career that I have brought back my passion for learning. I have had to learn the hard way that school is important, and that to have good grades I must always work hard for them. I have not always been a star student, but I will continue to work to become one, and in that means that I must learn to accept when I fail, but never ceasing to work hard to come back from those failures and to learn from those failures. I may not be number one in my class, but I know that one day I can and will

My key life lessons are that nothing beats hard work and if you treat others with respect, they will generally treat you with respect. Hard work and effort are the main aspects that lead to “lucky” things happening. Good things don’t just fall into people’s laps, the ones that have the most “luck” generally are those that put in the most effort and work. Also, I have learned that when you truly respect those around, they will respect you back and life is much easier when you aren’t doing things behind each other’s backs.…

Who am I? That is a very deep question. I think the only way I can answer that truthfully is by saying, I do not know exactly who I am, but I know who I want to become. I want to become a well rounded individual, someone who everyone likes and looks up too. I want to be someone my family can be proud of.…

It’s very strange how one experience or choice you make in your life can change the rest of your life that follows that event, would you then in turn change these decisions you made. Such as your what if your mom conceived you not on the knowing basis. What if everyone was telling her not to because she was to be a single mom and that’s not a world a child should be born into, but then what if she challenged this belief that she grew up with. This then in turn affected all her choices later in life, but then vice versa what if she didn't challenge this belief and stuck with what she knew. This may be of the more extreme choices in life that some people must make but we all have that certain time in our life that comes where we must break away and make…

I am someone who smiles Someone always telling jokes to make sure no one thinks something is wrong So no one suspects a thing when they see my smile I am someone who fixes the feelings of those whose hearts are shattering like pieces of glass I am someone who loves to dress up and wear makeup so no one sees how truly I am From the bags from staying up at night to the red from crying, both under the concealer Tears behind my eyeshadow-covered eyelids Cracks underneath my red lipstick And the pain within the mouth that contains whitened teeth…

What makes me “Me”, I have asked myself this question a thousand times over the last week before it finally hit me. And what makes me who I am my upbringing and my family also where I was raised, the ranch. There are so many ways that my family and the ranch has made me the person I am. From having family supper all gathered at one table, something that is being seen less and less in these days. To working cows, my family and the ranch has had the most impact on making me the kind of man that I am proud to be.…

There are a couple of obstacles that have played a major role in me becoming who I am today. I've had naysayers trying to negatively influence my thoughts, and crush my dreams by saying that said I will never amount to anything, or that I should give up on my dreams and get realistic with my goals. A couple years ago I was a completely different person. I was out of shape physically, my academic performance was very poor, and I had a terrible attitude. I improved greatly in athletics and my academic career.…

Throughout high school, I have always pushed myself for greater academic excellence through taking rigorous courses. Although I might not have succeeded at first, I listened to the advice of my teachers and kept trying until I succeeded. Furthermore, I never settle for the amount of knowledge I already possess because there is always something great to be learned. For instance, in my free time I love exploring the world through hiking trips and watching documentaries about the wonders of Earth. Furthermore, I take each encounter with a person or a thing as a learning opportunity and a way to expand the boundaries of my knowledge.…

In general, what I have learned through my life experiences exercise may not be a priority for the majority of people. Children and teenagers should be getting daily exercise; there are no excuses for them to lead a sedentary life. Young adults in their twenties are usually focused on themselves and their appearance drives them; therefore, the majority achieves their exercise goals. Exercise will probably not be a priority for new parents trying to adjust to the changes they are experiencing now and will continue to experience for the next eighteen years. Their focus will not be on themselves; therefore, allotting time, whether 75 minutes of vigorous or 150 of moderate activity in not likely.…

These people have influenced me the most because they not only share their wisdom with me, but they have also driven me to work harder to reach my potential. Though it took me a while to see their effect me, their perseverance, hard work, and belief in me has always been my inspiration to strive towards higher goals, and has also made me realize how I have to overcome my own weaknesses to make my dreams a reality.
