a. Why and how did you become interested in criminology as a field of study?
I decided to take an interest in criminology as a field of study because when I was younger, I took an interest in tv shows such as Law & Order and Criminal Minds which were my two favorite shows to watch. I understood not everything was real in the shows such as profilers, the way they got DNA samples back so fast, and the way computers would take a DNA sample found at the crime scene and match them to a specific individual within seconds leading them to the perpetrator. For example, in my psychology of criminality class I am learning the way criminals think, why they commit crimes, and why they think the way they do. So, applying my knowledge from this class will help me understand juveniles and inmates. However, when the Forensic Behavioral Science option came up the presenter was Arndorfer (2018). She honestly told us this option is in no way of relating to tv shows such as Criminal Minds, CSI, and Silence of the Lamb because that is all Hollywood acting. Arndorfer (2018) noted, Forensic Behavioral Scientist work includes why people commit crimes, criminal responsibilities, how to prevent crimes, intervention, rehabilitation, and treatments. This specific information provided to the class leads me to believe this option best fits me because my goal is to specialize in intervention and rehabilitation.

I am interesting in applying to PLFSOM because I have a desire to ultimately become a primary care physician that works in underserved communities. Coming from a rural area, I know what a lack of providers in a region can do to a community. I have spent a lot of time in border towns since my dads family is originally from Mexico and I have been able to see first hand that even the biggest of border towns still has a very big proportion of their population that is underserved. Right now, I already use my Spanish to help the Spanish speaking patients that we see at our clinic but my Spanish medical terminology is not as strong as I would like. Being able to get my medical education from a school so close to the border would help me become the…

Much of the work done by criminologists has to do with researching and challenging your skepticism. There are not many clear-cut answers on which way is the best way to get rid of crimes done by certain people and how to eliminate social injustices from the world. In conclusion, as a criminologist, I get to make my own theories, research them, and try to support my theory through tutoring, publications, and communications with law enforcement and groups of the community that try to reduce criminal…
