Law is much like a vessel; it helps society remain afloat and functioning through means of justice, equality and higher authority. The importance it possesses in enforcing jurisdictions – alongside the diversity in areas of everyday life in which law influences – is why it is the career I seek to pursue. Exposure to cases such as the Oscar Pistorius trial reaffirmed my interest as avidly following hearings underlined significant differences within penial systems. Studying law would provide me a practical and theoretical basis, identifying the political, economic, and social issues we face within modern day. The responsibilities of objectivity required in providing justice and equality is why I aspire to graduate within the legal field.

I am interesting in applying to PLFSOM because I have a desire to ultimately become a primary care physician that works in underserved communities. Coming from a rural area, I know what a lack of providers in a region can do to a community. I have spent a lot of time in border towns since my dads family is originally from Mexico and I have been able to see first hand that even the biggest of border towns still has a very big proportion of their population that is underserved. Right now, I already use my Spanish to help the Spanish speaking patients that we see at our clinic but my Spanish medical terminology is not as strong as I would like. Being able to get my medical education from a school so close to the border would help me become the…

My Personal Goal Statement Every day I wake up, I ask myself how I can make a difference. This question has helped shape my personal values and principles and directed my path into the nursing field. Growing up in West Africa and witnessing firsthand the sufferings and impoverishment of the people around me, I developed a sense of compassion and willingness to make a difference and help alleviate their sufferings and put a smile on their faces. Healthcare delivery and poverty are two major underlying factors in the challenges faced in Africa, thus, when I got an opportunity to come into the United States, it was my golden ticket to finally give back to the community and make a difference. This led me into the nursing field; I started out as a Certified Nurse Assistant.…

Expecting overnight changes in centuries old mind sets would be ridiculous. We can only look up to an enlightened and equitable judiciary to guide us out of this cesspool of attitudes, mindsets and corruption. I had opened this work with a quotation by Abraham Heschel from ‘The Prophets’ – “The prophet is a person who is not tolerant of wrong done to others, who resents other people’s injuries. He even calls upon others to be the champions of the poor.” We must not minimize the judiciary’s role in focusing our collective attention on the worst features of the desperate plight of our society’s most marginal person’s prisoners.…
