Families and friends began to ask some questions about medication. Because they were close to me, I did not want to give them incorrect information. So, I researched a lot to answer questions. Research and drug information classes were useful to figure out which sources were reliable. Also, I could understand better before when I read studies. My critical skills developed thought out classes and journal clubs. I enjoyed answering questions and gained more knowledge by reading studies and textbooks.
I was nervous to go retail/independent pharmacy for IPPE because I did not have any work experience in the pharmacy before. So, I did not know how the pharmacy worked in the United States. Fortunately, I had good preceptors who taught me with passion, so I had good experiences in my first IPPEs. One old lady came back to STEPS session because she remembered that I told her to come back again to check her blood pressure and blood glucose. I was glad that I influence one to pay attention to her health. Through out several STEPS sessions, I started to have interest in serving underserved people while I participated in STEPS. I realized that there would be many missions for underserved population that I could help with. According to the pharmacist, Kyle Glagow, “Practicing with this community, it really allows you to form a unique bond with your patient because a lot of these patients have been failed so many other times in their lives.” I believed I could share my faith with them if I work for them and make relationship with
