Since my first GCSE Law lesson, I have been captivated by the subject's diverse array of fields and its tight grip on how society is run. Law allows our country to function, decides for us what is right or wrong and allows justice to be available for whoever seeks it, hence why I want to study law as a degree. When I visited Winchester Crown Court I was fascinated at how a barrister can so greatly influence the sentence and future of a defendant in just a few words. I want a career where my actions are immediately visible, providing me with the opportunity to better a client's future. I am very interested in how the UK's legal system would be affected should we leave the EU. What laws will be removed or changed? Will we have a new British bill …show more content…
Chemistry, Physics and Maths have provided me with strong problem solving skills and the ability to think outside the box, to handle challenging scenarios and come to the correct solution. I have also learnt how to tackle problems methodically, equipping me well for a career as a solicitor. Through studying law for a number of years, I have also developed the ability to analyse and communicate information effectively. My EPQ is based around Sharia law and if one day it will be accepted into our legal system. It looks at how Britain has become more multicultural and if our legal system should reflect it. This has enhanced my research and essay writing skills as well as the ability to manage my time more effectively. By attending taster days at several universities I have learnt that all these skills will be vital in a law degree.
Being hardworking, dedicated and driven to achieve, I believe I would make an ideal law student. I currently am a member of the 'Pathways to Law' course at Southampton

The week allowed me to develop many business and legal skills whilst providing me the opportunity to experience working in London. As part of 'Pathways to Law' there is also an annual conference at Warwick University in which I had a range of classes to improve my negotiation, debating and public speaking skills. Over the summer holiday I arranged to spend a week with HHJ Johnson. This was a unique experience which gave me the opportunity to view a whole case, discuss it with the judge and barristers, listen to bail applications and watch a variety of sentences be passed, including the new criminal behaviour order.
With respect to volunteering, I have worked in my local Oxfam shop for several years whilst completing my Duke of Edinburgh bronze and silver awards. I also have a part time job at
Johnson's shoes, here I have to maintain a high standard of customer service, recall a variety of product details and pitch shoe care items. The upselling side of the job has provided me with strong persuasion techniques, commercial awareness and exceptional customer relation skills. These will all be vital alongside my positive attitude and good manner to allow me to communicate effectively with clients and handle disputes as a solicitor

However, despite the provision of free legal advice clinics, there is a major problem in this legal system and something needs to be done. These realizations and experiences have played a role in my decision to pursue a law degree. A law degree, coupled with existing knowledge, would allow me to have a greater impact in people’s lives, as well as allow for further professional and personal growth. For 43 years, since 1973 , Britain has been an active member of the European Union (EU) and played an important role in the development of this community. However, it is the hot topic that UK Prime Minister David Cameron has announced a referendum to be held on June 2017, in order to answer the question: "Should the United Kingdom remain a member of the EU or leave the EU?” It is uncertain what the exact answer is, since no country has ever done it before. However, people are trying to give different scenarios, weighting the pros and cons of leaving the EU, and it seems like the cons is outweighing the pros on the large scale, namely politics, economics and social impacts. Impact of Brexit on Britain and Eurozone European Union (EU) members are part of the custom’s treaty that ensures that there no tariffs on the movement of people or goods within member states. Nonetheless, there is a common tariff applied on goods and services entering EU. The union does not allow any member to function under independent trade policy, for instance forming trade agreement with other countries outside EU without informing the union (Miller 22). The multilateral or the bilateral trades are coordinated by an EU negotiator who is the EU Trade Commissioner. However, recently UK’s membership in the European Union (EU) has been overshadowed by some doubts as to whether it is fully committed to the union’s demands or whether one day it will quit in what would be referred to as Brexit.…
