As the year comes to an end, all that is left is prepare for senior year and advise the incoming juniors of what to expect. First and foremost, to all of the incoming juniors I would like to advise that they enjoy their experience as a Junior but not stray from their education. As long as they know their priorities, the incoming juniors will be able to enjoy their junior year. Me, as an incoming senior, want to take my own advice and enjoy the year while setting my priorities straight.…

I am applying for the Sociology and Education program at Columbia’s Teachers College because I feel that many attempts at making education better for marginalized communities, though well-intentioned, haven’t been able to reach their full potential. In India, for example, efforts like the Right to Education Act or teacher performance incentives in Andhra Pradesh have been ambitious ideas. And yet, because they haven’t been informed by the needs of the communities they hope to address, many problems remain as they were. I’ve seen the inadequacies play out multiple times in real life and have felt helpless, which is why I hope an education from Teachers College will help me articulate my experiences in a way that will allow me to contribute to making a sustainable impact in the education system.…

At the moment what I really need to do is as simple as focusing on the here and now; I need to make sure that I continue to put hard work into everything I do. To start with, I need to maintain my grades, I’ve had a 4.0 grade point average since middle school and in order to get into a good college I need to maintain that. In addition, I also need to keep up with my extracurricular activities; by joining clubs, volunteering, and doing other activities outside of school, I’m able to create a solid resume for myself. Finally, I need to make sure to work to get scholarships, and other forms of financial aid to gain the support I would need to pay for college. My goals are a bit out of my reach at the moment, but I’m sure…

I wish to be in English IIA because I want to face and overcome the challenge of an accelerated course. I believe that this class will push me harder to learn and prepare me for college. If I was put into English II I would probably lose interest and become unfocused, but with a fast moving class I would gain motivation to learn. I enjoy working and reading independently, so this class would be perfect for me. However, I do not oppose the idea of working with classmates and I will gladly cooperate.…

Personal Statement Jonathan Johnson, Malaysia, English Teaching Assistantship Walking past the White House on Pennsylvania Avenue still feels surreal. I vividly remember sitting in my Grammy’s trailer watching Obama’s 2008 presidential campaign, inspired by his journey and message of hope. His humble beginnings—being raised by a single, hardworking mother and grandparents facing financial pressures—partially parallel my story and continue to inspire my work as a community organizer, public opinion researcher, and educator. Unlike the rest of my family, I fortunately attended college, choosing the internationally diverse University of Rochester.…

Baylor Personal Statement I could hear conversation coming from inside the room. Confused and eager, I positioned myself behind the door. Why was no one excited? My advice to high school senior or even juniors, sophomores, and freshmen, no matter how low or high they make on the ACT, they should apply for college. You don’t need to know your major or career goals right away so don’t let anyone tell you that you should have it figured out right about now. After a person graduate, he or she can plan their life out and set goals. It’s never too late to apply or attend any college. If I can do it and keep motivating myself to get where I want to be, I know other people can…

Personal statements are well known to many young adults in high school and older. Mainly because a personal statement is an important aspect of your high school career in order to be accepted to the college you would like to attend in the future. When I became a high school senior, I didn’t know what to do, what to write, or where to even begin with the two essays. I was lost and confused. I strongly believe that learning how to write and create my personal statement is extremely significant to me because it taught me how to be very detailed, yet short and straight to the point, speak with emotions without being so overly dramatic, and lastly, it taught me how to write a well structured essay.…
