Personal Statement: Windows Art Class

I was introduced to the world of art by my elementary art teacher. During my fifth grade art class, my art teacher pointed out my talent and offered me to take Windows Art prep class. Windows art prep class prepared students with the portfolios for middle school windows art. After I got accepted to take windows art I had to decide between two middle school. During two years in windows art class I developed an interest in art.

Unfortunately, end of seventh grade, I had to move to a state of Michigan due to my father’s job. During first few years after I moved, I focused primarily on academics, being my father wasn’t supportive of me pursuing art as a career. However, it did not end my passion for art. Away from my dad’s sight, I would draw a small drawing on a sketchbook.

I believe there are certain types of arts that have to stay preserved but I am more interested in something approachable and somethings that are not limited on how it is displayed. Fashion is something that shines brightly for a period of time than eventually become worn out. This enables the creator to try and develop new style of garments. I want my garments to be displayed outside of the white box for more people to wear/experience my work.

Even after getting permission from my father, there still was an obstacle for me to overcome. Since I started art late, I had to work harder than anyone else that has been doing it for a longer period. Also as a student athlete, I already had a tight schedules and spending time on art was a big commitment. I had swim practice starting at five o’clock in the morning, and afternoon practice ending at five. After I determined to do art, I was only able to sleep three to four hours a day.
