Improved Essays
Blank stares and empty minds, this is what the school day consists of for many students in our current school system. The vast majority of students simply don’t enjoy school, this is reflected in their grades, behavior, and attitudes. Some students even dread school, spending every minute of class staring at the clock just waiting for the bell to ring. This happens for students of all ages, elementary to college. Over the summer I I ran into one of my former students, Anderson, while I was at work. I asked him if he was excited to start third grade, and he immediately shook his head no. Teachers can't forget that, for the most part, their kids don't want to be at school they would much rather be at the park or at home playing video games. Elementary teachers build the foundation for a student's outlook on school and this will affect them for the next 15 years.
As a future teacher I plan on building a personal relationship with each of my students, I think this is fundamental in education. Countless students and teachers go to school every day and work very hard to meet what is asked of each of them. Teachers work more than 40 hours a week, especially when there are events going on throughout the school year. Students go to class to earn an “A,” not to learn what the teacher is teaching the class due to the fact that students were taught to contently earn a letter grade in that class. However, teachers are not at fault either because the school board and administrators give the teachers a timeline of all the curriculum the students must learn to a certain point in time of each marking period. In “Against School” by John Taylor Gatto, he describes how numerous students and teachers go to school and they are just dullness is so…

Every parent wants their kids to have good grades and a good education, however a school can only do so much to in order for a child to be motivated to study. Fellow classmates, in an environment where we spend a minimum of thirteen years in school this should be an environment that we enjoy. Learning should not be an activity that we dread everyday. We spend eight hours at school each day with a multitude of teachers. While some teachers are well equipped to do their job, there is a group that can only be described as teachers who hate teaching. Instead of making you feel excited about the subject, they make you dread it.…

We, as pupils of the Math, Science, and Arts Academy, deserve basic rights as we are transferring from young adults to adults soon. Being in a public school, a student should always be happy to be able to go to school, but yet they aren’t because of the amount of stress caused from the Department of Education and the state of Louisiana due to End of the Year Courses, Common Core, SMI,SRI, Benchmark and ACT. As young adults, having fun is the number one thing that makes life better, but with the constant homework and standardized test, students can never have fun and they get depressed. School should not be depressing, school should be fun, but in today’s world, school isn’t about learning anymore, it’s about passing which makes it even more…

To be honest, I hate school with a passion, yet I love learning as much as living. As a child, schooling created a feeling of loneliness and sadness that echoed throughout my life, even now. I didn’t meet the standard levels for literacy and was separated from my classmates in elementary school for special reading and writing classes. Also the lack of freedom to say and move the way I wished to, and the rebellion that stemmed out of me in middle school due to these limitations. Finally, the conforming in high school to appease my mother, friends that drove me over the edge, yet even now I feel the same bull-crap in college.…

Today my parents asked me how school went. I wanted to respond with "Horrible, I never want to go back", but it's only one week since I've started the 10th grade. Therefore, I responded with the same "fine" I have been responding with since 7th grade. To be honest, I sometimes make it seem worse than it is. I could actually try to be positive, smile while I walk down the halls, laugh at unamusing jokes, seem like I actually want to be there with everyone else.…

A 2012 study by The RAND Corporation, a leading research nonprofit, found that “teachers matter more to student achievement than any other aspect of schooling.” Teachers play the role of educating students not only academically, but also socially and emotionally. In many instances, teachers provide important role modeling for students who may not have it at home, and school itself provides stability and consistency for high needs students. Teaching is so much more than just giving pointless assignments and incredibly hard tests that make students question, “What’s the point?” It is a career which helps shape students to be the best that they can be and it takes a very special person to do that.…
