Personal Statement: Why I Should Be Considered As A Lugar Scholar

Improved Essays
I believe that I should be selected as a Lugar Scholar because I have gone above and beyond in my high school career while facing adversity. Although, it did take a year for me to truly excel in my academics and become more involved, but that is because I was shy and just wanted to get by. This changed because my father passed away toward the end of my first semester of high school. I made a promise to him. I would go to college and excel in anything I did. I began to study more and take my schoolwork much more seriously. I was finally a High Honor Roll student my first semester of sophomore year. I began my journey to become a three sport student athlete. Sports changed my perspective on life. I began working as a team and becoming a leader.

I was five years old when my dad took me outside on the patio of our home to teach me how to catch a ball.
