I want this scholarship because it means more than just helping me finance college. It would mean that I was given the chance to

1st Draft Scholarship Essay I’m a farm boy stuck in the city, Kansas City, Kansas to be more specific. I was born here, but I was raised on my father’s ranch in Tuxcueca, Jalisco, Mexico. I always wondered why I felt out of place here in the United States, it’s a big change from the smell of green fields to exhaust fumes. I’m used to delivering calves and planting corn, riding a horse through the fields, rather than being struck in traffic on my phone.…

All so he can support my education and the well being of my family. Winning this scholarship will alleviate the burden that my education has put on my family.…

The Katherine Trewhitt Scholarship would impact my life by showing me my potential and helping me avoid debt. I see a massive part of transitioning from a child to an adult is learning to be independent. From my point of view, independence is found through hard work and responsibility. This gateway into adulthood is found when a student begins applying for colleges and scholarships. Applying for scholarships takes a considerable amount of time and effort, thus making it a challenge to see if through the years a student has learned to work hard and be responsible.…

Throughout my high school career, I have acquired a great amount of experience in preparation for many of the aspects of a successful college career. For example, I have developed a deeper understanding of the value of an education and have worked hard to receive money to fund my education. My family has always taught independence; thus, obtaining the funds for my education has been solely my responsibility. I have no other help, except scholarships and financial aid. I feel this scholarship suits me because I am not one to give up until my goals are attained and, currently, my goal is to have little to no student debt when graduating from college.…

I am willing to bet that there are many astonishing young men and women who have applied for this scholarship. I am also willing to bet there are a fair amount of applicants who meet the unwritten standards needed to receive this scholarship. I will not boast promises of outstanding grades or how this money could build my future. Instead, I will tell of my past, allowing my personality speak for itself. Growing up my parents always encouraged my siblings and me to stay true to ourselves, whether that is morally, mentally, and/or physically.…

If I was to receive this scholarship it would not simply be another opportunity or thing to share around the table on Thanksgiving Day when I speak of my gratitude. This opportunity would change my life; my views would be uprooted and replanted leaving me in a molded and better state than before. My heart would be temporarily filled as my itch to travel and understand would be scratched. My heart would only be satisfied for a time because this would be the catalyst to a life of exploration and enrichment. I know that once my feet are planted in the soil of another nation and my word exchanged with new people, my spirit will eternally crave more; more people, more sights, more perspective, and more time.…
