Personal Statement: Why I Chose To Pay For College

My father died when I was 13 years old and as a result, my mother is now my household’s sole provider. Her paycheck covers our basic necessities and leaves very little left over for my college fund. I have worked very hard my high school career to cultivate both impressive grades and extracurricular activities. First day of freshman year I already intimately understood that if I wanted to go to college, I would have to get scholarships and grants. My mother earns too much to qualify for aid but not enough to pay for my tuition. I have already applied for other scholarships and plan to apply to several more.
