In a mental health setting, stress refers to a person feeling that they are not able to deal with the situation with which they are faced (Mindful Employer 2011). A small amount of stress, often called pressure, can be helpful to increase motivation and production, and produce a feeling of achievement when a task is completed. However, extreme stress may impair a person’s decision making and their ability to carry out normal chores, and may even cause emotional or physical symptoms such as anger, despair, stiff muscles, or frequent headaches (Department of Labour and Occupational Safety and Health 2003). The three most effective stress management techniques that I found this semester and that I will continue to practice throughout any stressful situations in my life, were watching Netflix, going on nature walks and being around/petting animals. When deciding which stress management technique to use, I take in to count what my stressor was and what my stress level is at. I also take in to count that I cannot always pick the one I want. For example, when the weather is raining or snowing, it permits me from going outside for a nature walk.…

Valerie Bertinelli once made the comment, “There's going to be stress in your life, but it's your choice whether to let it affect you or not.” She was right about the fact that we all experience stress in one way or another, but as for the rest of her statement, studies have shown that not all responses to stress are exactly voluntary. “Stress” itself has not officially been labeled as a medical condition, but it has been proven to cause many others. Overwhelming amounts of stress can affect several places in the body, even the important ones, such as the gastrointestinal, respiratory and cardiovascular systems. “Stress” is defined as “a state of mental or emotional strain or tension resulting from adverse or very demanding circumstances.…
