Reflection Paper On Rotc

When I was younger, I was a very introverted kid. I had problems talking to others and preferred to keep to myself. Back then I felt much more comfortable following instructions than doing something that I was not certain of the outcome. But, I always looked up to the leader. I wanted to be someone who could influence others and the person that people could look to for guidance. However, I was a very shy and timid kid who didn’t know how to control myself let alone lead others. But, I took my first step toward my goal when I joined the MCJROTC program at my high school. MCJROTC stands for Marine Corps Junior Reserved Officer Training Corps. It uses a military format and structure to teach leadership and discipline to students. ROTC put me in a position where I was responsible for other people and how they would improve within our own system. I had to motivate them to get involved with ROTC and make them want to improve. At first I was scared. How could I be responsible for another person? But ROTC didn’t leave me alone to figure it out myself it taught me how to be a leader. When you are in a position of leadership it is important to act as you instruct your subordinates. Say for example your employee sees you come in late while you consistently scold him for being late. The employee would feel that you are being unfair, that if you can be late then why can’t he. When you are in any leadership position it is important to understand the impact that your decisions make on others.
