Would you ever think someone would name their kid after the phrase priest town? Well I didn’t think so until I found out Preston means priest town. “Oh, Jesus”! I shrieked out as the knife slid through my skin as I endlessly hacked away at the gobs of raw chicken breast I was preparing for tomorrow morning. My face began to pale and every part of my body seemed to go numb, except my mind. Working overtime, my body trailed off into thought, deeming the injury at hand trivial and obsolete. I put the summer before my junior year of high school into perspective.…

Whitewater has always meant a lot to me. It is where I grew up and have created all the lasting memories with me today. Having this passion for the town helped with my decision to apply to Whitewater University and could not be a better fit for my future career. If admitted to your university, I am convinced that I will be able to bring excellent communication skills, background with volunteer service, a strong work ethic and leadership experience through the multiple clubs I engage in both in and out of school, my sports activities, and my participation with my local church.…

On December, 20, 2015, my mother and I volunteered for an organization called Change For Good, to help reconstruct an apartment of a single mother named Toni. Toni lives alone in a run-down neighborhood in Baltimore with her six year old disabled daughter. Mr.Corey, the leader of Change for Good, partnered up with my mother to help improve Toni's living conditions. While one of the volunteer members took Toni to be pampered, the rest of the members went to work. One of the things that shocked me about this project, was the area.…

Nearly all myths and stories, share similar characteristics in the plot. These similarities and the different stages of adventure are identified to be called the “Hero’s Journey.” In the “Odyssey” translated by Robert Fagle, we as readers come upon a character named Odysseus, who experiences the events contained in the “Hero’s Journey.” Odysseus was forced to convert from a peaceful life to the devastating scenes of death in the Trojan War. Although I am only a mere 14 years old, I too have experienced this harsh conversion. Yet, just because my personal strife is nowhere near as severe as Odysseus’ it was still subject to the Hero’s Journey.…

When I picture my future, the most prominent aspect of it is my happiness. The most probable source of my happiness would have to be finally believing I’ve done something great, something generating that gratifying feeling of “I made it”. I’m very fortunate to be able to say that throughout just about all of my school career, I’ve always known I wanted to work in a business-related profession and achieve success. Knowing that I want to pursue a prosperous career in this field, I have involved myself in karate, business classes and accounting activities, and leadership programs, just about all made possible by the Gear Up IV program.…

Through all of my years of school I lived by the idea that school is mandatory, and if I had to be there I was going to make the most of it, and if I put in the hard work now, it will pay off later. Which is exactly what is happening for me with scholarships. I earned good grades and took on as many extracurricular activities as I could handle, and now I am a very competitive candidate. I am captain of the cross-country and track teams, a track state medalist, an AP Scholar, a member of the theater department, mock trial club, National Honors Society, and senior editor of the yearbook. Through all of these activities and events I was able to connect with so many people that helped shape me into the person I am today.…

Driving up I recognize the Gustavus campus but only as an outsider. I never paid much mind during tours as I assumed I would never have the financing to afford to come here. My car was “fully” loaded and as I unloaded I saw my pile of two bins and my medicine draw compared to the mountains of other people's belongings. I never felt like I has no possessions until then. I have been living on my own for years and only bought essential items.…
