Personal Statement: The Search For A Personal Identity

“The search for a personal identity is the life task of a teenager.” -Haim Ginott izquotes.com. I am Daniel Shurtleff from Riverglen Junior High School in Boise, Idaho. Two factors have created what I am today, They have sculpted and changed me into the human being I am, They have created, and are creating, my identity. Identity is what defines us as individuals. In this essay, I will highlight these factors of my personal identity. The first topic of discussion is my mother's influence on me. My mother has built my personality and taught me right from wrong. She has contributed to my identity by helping through hard times and trials in my life and teaching me of finer things. Talking about the finer things, let’s move on to the second topic

Erik Erikson was a 20th century psychoanalyst who theorised that people go through eight different stages of development that helps determine their own identity (Woolfolk and Perry, 2012). Erikson’s eight different stages of development are 1) Trust versus mistrust, 2) autonomy versus shame and doubt, 3) initiative versus guilt, 4) industry versus inferiority, 5) identity versus role diffusion, 6) intimacy and solidarity versus isolation, 7) generativity versus stagnation, and 8) integrity versus despair.
