Having a good morale I would be good at helping teammates and lifting up their attitude, by giving those words of encouragements and giving them honest comments. I will not be giving them empty comments because it would backfire and not help them in the long run. I am also willing to contribute is scholarship. I can contribute scholarship by trying my best and not giving up when the going gets tough. I will always strive to learn something new and try to fix my mistakes and learn from them to be a better person. I will also try to improve my skills and abilities. I am willing to contribute service and character. I can contribute service by helping out the school and the community. I can help out the school and the community by taking my skills and talent and start to build them up. I can contribute character by being kind and compassionate to the people surrounding me. My pursuit of a medical degree is greatly strengthened by the Columbia University Public Health Scholars Program (SPHSP). Prior to matriculation from the program my source of motivation held no true direction, I wanted to simply “help people”. During SPHSP I was exposed to federally qualified health centers (FQHC) and my eyes were opened to new medium to help people. I admired the measures that FQHC put in place to effectively serve a population of people that, under normal circumstances, would not be able pursue healthcare. FQHCs aligned closely to the sense of equity that I began to develop as I was exposed to communities suffering from health disparities over the course of the internship.…

I have always been naturally inclined to leadership and helping others in group situations. My four years of high school have been spent not only in a classroom, but also out in front of my peers performing as an athlete. I have been involved in year-round sports, specifically, cheerleading and outdoor track and field. Over the course of freshman year, I soaked up as much information as I could to become both a better athlete and role model for both the girls on the team and students at my school. Sophomore year, I was named a captain for Junior Varsity Cheer, alongside another girl.…

I can be the vocal leader and keep my younger teammates in line or lead our team in prayers before races. If someone has a poor race, I can be the one who takes them aside and tells them it's not the end of the world and show them how they can learn from the experience. When needed, I can step back and allow someone else to take charge, while I silently lead by doing what is expected of me without complaining. This difference in mindset is something I will be able to carry into a countless number of situations in my…

The qualities that I possess that would enable me to contribute to the FGCU community are compassion, leadership and commitment to excellence. Having compassion means being aware of the feelings and needs of those who are around you. It's the little things we do in life that can make a big difference in someone else's. Scholarship, service, leadership, and character; these are the four pillars of NHS that have played quite a large role in my life in the past year. Even early in my life, these pillars have held a prominent role; I have always kept my grades to high standards, I have always volunteered my time, I have always done all that I can to lead and govern others, and I have always been doing the right thing, even when no one is looking. These pillars were a part of my identity before I was really aware of what they were or before I even knew NHS existed. When I became a part of the organization, officers and advisors kept mentioning the four pillars are how they are the back bone and how they should be a part of our lives. I have been using these pillars…

Scholarships are important because they provide an opportunity for underprivileged students to do something better. They can pay some of their way through the college of their choice. Scholarships taught me acceptance and denial; because I have never received one, so when I do, I will be grateful and use it towards college: room, board, books, or tuition in general. Service is important because it gives students a new perspective that they are not entitled to anything. Sometimes after completing service projects students learn that giving back to the community without anything in return is rewarding in itself.…
