Career: Social work requires a different number of skills in which I believe I possess. Since my elementary school years, I have always had an interest in child development or anything child related because as my hobby I babysat. I remember at the end of junior year of high school; my parents pressured me about picking the college I wanted to attend. I applied to several colleges, but I wanted to closer to home so I chose the University of Mississippi. Prior to choosing this institution, I remember watching several great movies and that all shared something common. Every individual has a different set of values which reflects their ability to handle situations differently than others. Three personal values that I think are important and relevant to social work are honesty, character, and change. I chose these three because they reflect the kind of person I want to portray myself as. These values were taught to me by my parents. I learned honesty from my parents always forcing me to be honest in every situation I am in regards of the consequences. Character is important to me because I know my worth and I believe that everyone is worthy. My parents have always taught me to treat others with respect At last, I strongly believe in empowering change. I pursue social change within my country. Change for oppression, lack of resources, poverty and much more. I learned being about change through my parents’ political preference and through my exposure to learning the history of the world. My values agree with the values of social work because they are the values of social work. Honesty is the same as integrity, just like character is the same as dignity, and change refers to social justice. My values and social work core values do not diverge if anything they converge. I believe the only way my values with affect my ability to practice social work is if I become subjective and not objective when interacting with my
