Discovering self-motivation was my highest score, and I am not entirely surprised by that. I find motivation in every little task with the hope something bigger may come with it. In high school, I would strive to obtain the knowledge while maintaining the highest grades with the end goal of going to college to further my education and earn scholarships to assist the expenses. In athletics, I would put in hours in the weight room and work the hardest on the court. I am a competitive person, so when I see someone succeed and know I also have the tools to do the same, I find it easy to motivate myself. Another one of my strengths displayed in the assessment was mastering self-management. Being able to manage four sports, receive good grades, work a part time job, and serve as a leader on student council and different church groups, I have been good at managing my schedule in a way that I can fully commit myself to each group without failing another. My third strongest score was accepting personal responsibility. Three of my lowest scores were believing in myself, developing emotional intelligence and gaining self-awareness. I find myself doubting my abilities and comparing myself to others in relationships, jobs, sports, school, and every other aspect of life. If I get down on myself in whatever situation, I have a difficult rising above it and moving forward quickly. I expect a lot on myself, so anything less than what I expect or hope for disappoints me. I many times care too much what others might think of me and the glory my accomplishments could bring. I often need to reevaluate my motives and direct my achievements to bring glory to God. I can blind myself and lack the self-awareness. Although I strive to be a selfless, kindhearted, patient person, but I know temper can get in the way of that sometimes. The ability to live a healthy life physically, mentally, socially, and spiritually leads to a successful and happy life. Downing’s self-assessment served as a tool that forced me to fix some of my weaknesses and acknowledge some of my strengths as a person.
