Personal Statement: Pursuing An Artistic Career

Decent Essays
After taking the quiz I scored a 23 in the artistic category, this did not come as a surprise to me. I have been interested in the arts for about four and a half years so far and so far my experiences have been amazing! Although I have been a part of many different kinds of arts like acting, singing, and painting, music is my favorite. It doesn't matter whether I am helping somebody learn or just making music myself, I love it. I think I would enjoy most artistic jobs, but I would really like to be a music teacher. Music is something that I am extremely passionate about, I would love to share my love of music with others. I believe that without a doubt I will pursue an artistic career that has to do with music. If I could help others while

An abundance of people appreciate the arts, whether it be the performing, visual or theatrical areas, on the other hand, I love them. My passion being the visual arts. Instead of writing and spelling at five years old, I was drawing, painting mixing colors and forming shapes not realizing the capableness of my techniques for such a young aged child. Because drawing was the only thing I fancied, every one figured it was “a phase I was going through and would grow out of it”. It never happened.…

Although I am most interested in acting, I want to pursue a career in production because I don’t see a diverse and accurate representation of society, in films and on television. I want to be one of the people who is deciding what content makes it to the screen, as well as, be one of the people on the screen. Media has been so conditioned to having the same faces on the screen, and this continues to negatively affect the public. For example, the depiction of the strong, white male has continued to drive stories in front and behind the camera, but I want to change this. Minorities, women, the LGBTQ community and many more deserve to be properly represented on television and film, and they should not be defined through the eyes of white males…

I worked in the medical field for twenty plus years, taking care of many patients from diverse populations and with many situations; such as substance abuse issues, homelessness, etc. I became disabled from the field of work but learned a lot about a diverse group of people by asking questions and looking up information to help me care for them efficiently. Recently I acquired a job as a program manager at a women homeless shelter; which is out of my realm of practice, but in four short weeks, I have found it is where I belong. As the program director, I have also had the opportunity to consult others, such as art therapist in my agency and MSW’s in other agencies to help build my knowledge of the population. I have learned that most therapy…

Two summers ago, I experienced an epiphany in the Contarelli Chapel in the Church of San Luigi dei Francesi in Rome. While I am certainly not the first to have had a revelatory experience there, mine was not of the religious kind. Rather, mine was the illuminating realization that my path leads where my dual and symbiotic passions for history and art have been inexorably guiding me my entire young life. I have long been fascinated by the past and drawn to museums and other repositories of the past. The first time I breathed the chill conditioned air of the American Museum of Natural History, my father had to lift me on his shoulders to give me an unobstructed view of the fossil remains of a triceratops.…

The heat from the stage lights, the watchful gazes of the audience, and the sweat dripping off of our faces as we struggle to remember our lines, these sensations of being on stage are what caused the performing arts to become not only an activity, but also a passion and an unexpected source of personal growth. Through my experiences in drama and music I have been able to discover my own meaning of fulfillment and define who the person behind my appearance truly is. My passion in the performing arts started when I was a young child first learning to play the violin. Picking up the violin at the age of 6, I became stuck on one of the most basic songs for almost a whole year. At that time no one believed that I could play the violin, my teacher thought that I was too hyperactive and even my mom attempted to convince me to quit.…

“Strive for excellence!”, “Keep pushing yourself to the best of your ability.” , and “Have heart.” These are just a few of the many words of encouragement my dad would tell me as I grew up. At the time, I thought he was only referring to the sports I was playing. Whether it was gymnastics, softball, basketball, or volleyball, he was always pushing me to be the best I could be.
