Personal Statement: Pursuing A Career In Law School

Decent Essays
Hello, I am a third year criminal justice major at the University of Delaware. I have always wanted to have a career in law. After talking with older lawyers and recent law school grads it seems like law school isn't really worth attending at this point in time. I feel like my major is worthless, and that the only way to make a decent living is getting a law degree. Can anyone on here give me some advice. I feel I'm going to no where in Life.

My drive to venture into the legal field early has allowed me to participate in two legal education programs in Texas and Florida. In the past five years I have worked at several law firms, including an immigration law firm where I wrote pardons for applicants, and assisted a former professor in helping a Salvadoran refugee get permanent asylum in the United States. Once I earn my bachelor’s degree in Journalism for investigative reporting, I will attend a premier law school and earn my Juris Doctor to embark on a career in immigration. Attending Universitat…

Criminal Justice is a social science where people study crimes, criminals, and the criminal justice system, as well as attempt to identify and explain criminal behaviors. Majoring in criminal justice requires you to take classes such as psychology, sociology, political science, philosophy, and forensic science. Although I am not a huge fan of science, forensic science sounds interesting and reminds me of what the characters on CSI: Miami do, which makes this requirement more appealing to me. At Southwestern College, the classes that you are required to take if you are majoring in Criminal Justice are Introduction to Administration of Justice, Concepts of Criminal Law, Juvenile Law and Procedures, Legal Aspects of Evidence, a few sociology and…

True and significant life is found in Jesus Christ and because of my firm conviction of this it has been my primary objective to point people to Jesus. Being persuaded that Christ wants Christians and especially those who take leadership roles to minister to the needs of others, I have ordered my life to conform to that conviction. Ultimately, Jesus desires that each Christian serves him by serving others; this is accomplished in a variety of ways – feeding those who are hungry, teaching everyone the life saving Gospel, and by leading in a way that reflects the glory of Christ. It has been my immense pleasure to have had the opportunity to preach God’s Word to thousands of people over the past fifteen years. It is my sincere passion to see people embrace Christ Jesus as their Lord and savior and to be transformed by the renewing of their minds through the Word of God.…

In 2010, a stranger entered my home and stabbed a family friend on several times after she had returned from a ballet. It was suspected that the crime was committed under the influence of drugs as there was no motive for the action. I came to realize all the different aspects involved in bringing justice to a victim, which has endured corporal and psychological wounds. This initiated my interest to study Law as justice helps the victim to heal as well as preventing these events from reoccurring. Therefore, I see the Law as a vital component of a functioning society.…
