After graduating middle school, I became a volunteer and worked with the agency through the Summer Youth Employment Program for six weeks each summer. When I became 18 years old, the current director offered me a permanent paid position as a mentor. Then after completing college, the director was retiring and I was offered their position, especially since I had grew up with the agency.
Me: Ok that’s great. So you had the opportunity to watch to watch the agency grow. What makes being involved with youths and services so great?
Director: These programs not only help our youth develop in many different ways, but these programs help strengthen their school, families and the community. With the success that the agency builds, the more opportunities for expansion. The programs and services expanding creates more safe havens for children, free which is beneficial to parents, and offering more jobs to older youth in our community.
Me: Why do you think there is an increased demand for these programs, although the government is always potentially trying to decrease funds to financially support afterschool
