Becoming a teacher was always an obvious career choice for me because of my love for kids. Growing up, I had always struggled with school and never felt good enough. I chose to pursue a teaching career for middle school because I feel that children are at that age where they are interested in everything. They want to know more than what they learned when they were in elementary school and that makes me excited for them. I remember when I was younger when I first told my parents that I wanted to become a teacher because my seventh grade math teacher had the greatest influence on me, and I remember them telling me that becoming a teacher would be a mistake because they didn’t make much money. To this very day, I believe that if you want to become a teacher it’s because you have a big heart and you’re not in it for the income but for the outcome. Hard work and determination will allow me to pay for the things that I want in life, such as my dream house, and children, vacations, cars, and more…

Most people change their career decisions multiple times before they actually pick a final job, but I never had an interest in anything other than being a teacher. I have always connected with younger kids over high school or middle school children, which is why I chose to major in Early Childhood Education. I believe that teachers have the ability not only change the world, but improve it. I want to become a teacher because seeing that light bulb go off and seeing the looks on the student’s faces when they get a problem is a great feeling. Many kids are ignored at home or even bullied at home and I want to make all those children feel wanted and to know that someone is there for them and truly does care about them.…

All of my life, I have loved to nurture individuals younger than myself. Growing up, with my best friends and brother, all whom were much younger than myself, I would beg them to play school so I could pretend to be a teacher. Begrudgingly, they would indulge me in my wish for a short while until they realized I wanted to make them do actual math problems. Since then, the joy for imparting knowledge on others has never diminished, but has intensified as I have matured into a young adult. I believe that a great teacher can help mold a generation.…

During our principalship course, we had a very passionate discussion about how some of our colleagues perceive teachers that go through Teach for America or any alternative certification process for that matter. Some of my colleagues appear to be very bias in terms of qualifications and commitment of these particular teachers. I would have to respectfully disagree with them and perhaps I may as well be bias due to the route I chose to take to become an educator. Ten years ago, I chose to make the biggest decision in my life and that was to become a teacher. And the way I went about obtaining my certification at that time was through an alternative certification program offered by Rockford University.…
