Personal Statement: Pursuing A Career In Computer Science

I am perfectly content in an environment where I am helping people. I relish it when faces light up because I have solved a problem or I helped someone understand something. I am able to assist a person with computer issues best; that is why I have an internship at my school in the Help Desk. I go around the school solving I.T. related issues. I am excited when I go to Help Desk because I acquire new knowledge about computers every day. If I do not know how to resolve a problem myself, I collaborate with other Help Desk assistants and supervisors to discover the solution. I want to find a career in which I can do similar work. I would not be pursuing the profession I am without my start in Computer Science. In my junior year AP Computer Science course, I excelled. I had never written a program before that, but once I learned the basics, I was having fun learning. I could spend hours writing code, just to make it more efficient, secure, and easy to use. I became the one my classmates would ask for help with something they just could not figure out. Working together, the best moments were when we would realize the way to make a program work correctly. …show more content…
There is a human element necessary to design technologies that make the world better. It is more than acceptable to be a geek, but in my opinion, one must have the personality to interact with people. When a person asks me for help, I'm not going to just do it all myself and tell them their problem is fixed, I want them to be self-sufficient. For this reason, I need to know how to explain the functions of computation without scaring them off using technical verbiage. Outside of school, family members and friends ask for my assistance, and usually I can manage to teach them something

I knew from a young age that I wanted to eventually have a career which positively impacted the individual. When I was six years old, I wanted to be a window washer so I could give people the joy of being able to look outside. When I was in high school, I wanted to be a speech-language pathologist in order to help people exercise their right to speak. I have always observed that I am not the type of person who functions well in an inactive environment. I learn best by doing, and I cannot sit still and watch someone else do it for me.…

The main reason why I majored in Computer Science and Mathematics is since it would grant me the circumspect education to become an Information Security Analyst. The reason why I chose these majors is as a background in computer science would be useful as I would have a thorough understanding of operating systems and databases. In addition to being able to understand the principles of computers, a proficiency in programming is beneficial toward learning ethical hacking. I would benefit from being able to understand how malware works, but also how to patch a system to prevent any security exploits. The applied mathematics background is useful for having a more in-depth comprehension of how cryptography works and statistics which is advantageous…

It wasn’t until high school that I really began to understand how I could actively utilize that pragmatic and enthusiastic part of myself. I reveled in the increasingly abstract problems and concepts from my math and science classes that discouraged my peers. Despite that, the only class that managed to completely captivate my attention was my computer science. Every problem that I encountered in that class seemed like a thousand piece puzzle with only the tiniest of clues to hint at a way I could solve the problem; the challenge was intoxicating. Equipped with greater knowledge about computers and code from my teacher, I could take on more daunting challenges and projects than I could have ever imagined when I was nine.…

When I was a child, most of my time was spent on the computer. I wasn’t very interested with the physical computer, rather I was interested in everything the computer could do. It was more fun for me to tinker with the settings than to play games. As I got older in elementary school, I discovered website and game building sites. I built sites on my computer for everything from a fake business that sold toys to a page to host all the pictures from my semi-annual Barbie fashion shows.…

Martin Luther King Jr. once said, “Human progress is neither automatic nor inevitable... Every step toward the goal of justice requires sacrifice, suffering, and struggle; the tireless exertions and passionate concern of dedicated individuals. ”Every goal in life is determined by the actions we do right now and I want to make a difference and leave the most positive impact on the world. Ever since I was a kid I always dreamed of being an astronomer; however, I changed my mind figuring out how much math there was to get there. I changed my mind, not that it was theoretically impossible, but I just don’t like doing math.…

During my last few years of middle school, I stumbled upon an engineering and technology workshop when visiting high schools. It was then when I first saw computer programming in action: a group of students clicking away on their keyboards, formulating lines of code. With each passing instant, I was captivated as their nimble fingers glided across the keyboard. Knowing little about this field of study, I turned around to my father, bombarding him with questions. However, he only replied with: “that’s for boys, don’t bother.”…

College Career Feasibility Report The passion that I have for technology began to prosper at age five when I received my first cellular communication device, as a gift, mostly for safety purposes. After this, I began to collect cell phones, and shortly thereafter I got my first laptop, followed by my first PlayStation 3, my love for technology grew on and on. Before my first day at Tennessee High School, I knew that I sought to take as many computer-related classes as possible, and that is exactly what I have done. However, it was not until I had classes with a teacher named Mrs. Del Gaudio that I knew for sure Computer Science was the profession that I would be working towards doing for the rest of my life.…

From my perspective, Information Technology means utilizing and managing the technology in order to solve problems. In simple terms, look into the word “Information Technology” we find two words, “Information” and “Technology” where information means processing the data in an organized way and technology refers to using electronics machines or systems to complete the work in simple ways.…

My determination to pursue a career in Computer Science sprang from the embarrassment I faced when I was in third grade. I became the subject of mockery after I pushed the power button when asked to shut down the lab-computer. I felt as if every other student but me knew how to systematically shut down the computer. Mortified, I aimed to outclass everyone in my class and ultimately become eminent in a field relating to computers. By reading every book I could find about computers, I propelled my knowledge much beyond the scope of our basic computer classes.…

Personal Statement Since my acquaintance with Intel 586 during my primary school, I’ve had a magic relationship with computer science. The seed of the desire to be involved in the information world has been sown in the bottom of my heart at an early age. My decision of study engineering during my undergraduate period was actually derived from the readings concerning computer science and raw contact with the science and mathematics in my spare time. I was deeply convinced by my interests in logical deduction both in detective novels and mathematics. However, there is always a widely recognized opinion that girls’ logic thinking ability and coordinating capacity are inferior to the boys’.…

Signing up for I101 was a no-brainer for me as a direct admit to the School of Informatics and Computing. Although I started the course with a basic understanding of what the difference between informatics and computer science was, I continue to learn the difference in the details between the two fields. I have declared informatics as my major, but the class has sparked an interest in computer science and I have been considering a minor in the field. During my last two years of high school I took programming and advanced programing while designing a website for the Newspaper. Although I was exposed to code in the programming class I didn’t truly understand what I was doing, why certain code was written, or why it varies and works with other…
