Using this lens and viewing a prescribed policy and process, that has not been adhered to confirm, every department or office has occasion to improve its performance. Creswell (2013) indicates, “We use qualitative research to follow up quantitative research and help explain the mechanisms or linkages in causal theories or models” (p. 48). The challenge as administrator and researcher, is collecting data and then performing analysis. What data should be collected and what analysis should take place? As aforementioned, this too can be challenging, individuals can take ownership of a policy or process and feel threatened when research points to a flawed policy or process. As an individual what lens (bias) is used while doing research to show cause? What ever the lens, stewardship should house it and a department or office mission statement should focus the view. With that in mind Creswell (2013) suggests, “Th[e] interrelationship between design and approach continues with the purpose statement, a statement that provides the major objective or intent, or “road map,” to the study” (p. 134). I concur, develop a purpose statement, work with peers and confirm this is a concern for all individuals in the department or office.
