I might struggle with classes and professors or I might not be good at getting my work done on time. Although growing up in a household surrounded by Vietnamese tongue, my parents always made the conscious effort to ensure that I was becoming more fluent in English—as I read the Little Golden Books Series every night before I slept, watched the Berenstain Bears on the small, bulky cathode ray television before me, and completed numerous School Zone workbooks—so that I wouldn’t be a step behind my English-speaking peers once I was sent off to pre-kindergarten. I never thought much of it, but the idea of one day—in the distant future—walking through confetti with a cap and gown on and a diploma in my hand had always been ingrained since I was four. I knew that I was going to graduate high school and go to college before I could even use the…

I grew up in what is considered a low income family, but I’ve always wanted to go to college. As I grew up, my goals became realistic. Instead of being president, however, I now want to do something that involves helping others and educating.…
