Reflection On Physical Fitness And Wellness

Decent Essays
I have a strong background on physical fitness and wellness, because of who I am and who am parents are. Both my parents were high school athletes, and my dad continued to be a college athlete. In my parents are still in good shape because my dad was a personal trainer for the majority of my childhood. My mom has always been fit because she has always had a part in the medical field, she is currently on a fire department. So both my parent have always found fitness and wellness a very important aspect in life, and with that I learned to have the same love and passion for it. I was a swimmer for ten year and was very diligent in the training aspect. Now that I 'm in college I have stop because CUAA doesn 't have a pool and to also focus on …show more content…
In the class we talked about how walking is an actually exercise. I guess I have always took walking as something that wasn 't very important and that it wasn 't doing much for your body. I was rightfully wrong about this idea, this class help me see that walking is so much more than just getting for one place to the other. I think the biggest shocker for me was that walking with a high heart rate is the same or better for you as running is. Now that I am no longer swimming I started to take up running as a way to get cardio, and I am not a very good runner to say the least. So now after having this class I have started to walk on an incline every day at the gym before I run. I do this to help get my heart rate up like we practice in class and also to loosen up my legs. Walking has helped me burn just a few more calories and to help work a different part of my body out on a low impact …show more content…
It was one of the first days in class and you told us to write down two to three goals you wanted to attive. I wrote two goals; 1. To walk without my legs turning red. I picked with goal because every time I walk my front of my thighs would always get red and that get pretty uncomfortable. Now i 'm unsure on how I actually accomplished this goal but it got better. The second goal I had was; to lose 5- 10 lbs of body fat be the end of this semester. I don 't want to lose muscle, I wanted to get lean and mean as my dad puts it. Now it is not the end of the semester and I haven 't lost any weight, but I feel like I have replaced some fat with muscle. I feel better and I know that I gain muscle at a fast rate, but I am still going to work towards this goal everyday. Having this goal is another reason why I keep working out everyday even though I am sore or have things to do. Having these goals makes me want to achieve them that much more, because I see them every day. After realizing how much of any impact it had on me I took this tool and used it in my other classes. I made three goals for my both my anatomy and physiology class and my microbiology class. After putting them all down on a piece of paper, I hung them on my wall right where I do homework so that I can see them everyday and remind myself that things aren 't handed to you, you have to work towards them

    - Personal Statement For as long as I can remember I have always loved sports. Most children are naturally playful, but for me, my desire to be active stretched well pass my childhood years. In elementary school I was a part of a little league baseball team, in middle school I ran track, and in high school I became an even more diverse athlete by joining the baseball, basketball, and soccer teams. It was during that time when I realized my passion for sports medicine.…

The dream of becoming an Occupational Therapist can be traced back to my original desire of contributing to exercise-related fields, which derived from those years I committed myself to track and field training before college. During that period of time, I experienced great pleasure, heavy frustration, even grief, and let alone physical discomfort. Fortunately, those diverse experiences have given rise to my own physical and mental growth and have made me realize athletes are not merely people who exercise. For me, having been an athlete is a part of being who I am now, and it shapes my attitude toward how I should live a life in the meantime. This is also why I am studying Exercise Science for my bachelor degree, hoping that I will, one day,…

Fitness and Goal Setting Knowledge Fitness and goal setting have been the main topic of conversation in this class. Whether we need to work on legs or arms today, or what we are going to do in the future. I learned that it is better to do quantity over quality when it comes to fitness workouts, and that it is always important to stretch and warm up your muscles before a workout to ensure you do not strain any muscles. For goal setting, I learned that if you pick a specific goal that you wish to achieve, like say to reach +10 in the fitness flexibility test, you can keep working towards that goal step by step, or in this case number by number, to reach your goals efficiently. When reaching towards a goal, you cannot just make it in one try…

I set goals at the beginning of this class - goals I wanted to achieve by the end of this semester. After looking back at the sheet of paper where these goals were written on, I realized that they had all been accomplished. Also, after reviewing the essays I wrote before, I noticed that the most recent essays had gotten better and more improved. My goals created at the beginning of this semester when this class began were to improve my vocabulary and mechanics, learn to use citations, stay on focus, and have fun, rather than looking at writing essays as a school assignment that has to be done. Some skills have improved more than others, but in an overall outlook, all the skills I wanted to improve on had gotten noticeably better.…

College Success Skills #2 At the beginning of this semester, my main goal was to work on my habit of procrastination. I wanted to manage my time better with the use of a planner and make myself sit down and do my homework or study ahead of time so that I wouldn’t be as stressed out and could have time to have fun with friends without worrying about an assignment or test. At first I was doing an okay job, but soon I found myself falling back into my old habits.…

Heywood Broun said, “Sports do not build character. They reveal it.” Consequently, I believe that being on my high school swim team was the one of the biggest revelations of my character. When I entered high school, I had to play a sport because it was my mom’s rule, “you will participate in minimally one sport”. As a result, my brother played football, ran track, and swam.…

The Lesson in Quitting For the past 7 years of my life, swimming has played a huge role. Growing up, I had always enjoyed being in the water, and was one of the odd kids that genuinely enjoyed swimming lessons, no bribes required (thinking about it, I wish I had some of those kids in the lessons I teach now). Overtime, it began to feel less like a passion and more like an obligation; something I had committed to that was too late to stop. I was afraid to quit, afraid to disappoint, and trying to be dedicated to a sport I had lost interest in made me start to hate it. This year, I finally decided to drop the sport, and am now embracing the huge change it has had in my life.…

I am a pretty active person in my everyday life and I do walk on my treadmill every morning, but I really want to get my heart rate up and burn some calories. I do notice that I am very tired in the mornings and I have read a number of research articles that show performing an activity like jogging or running first thing in the morning helps with energy and ramps up your metabolism. Since I am so tired in the morning I do drink coffee and drinking more coffee lead to more sugar in my diet, which is something that I am really…

    My Basketball Journey

I started my journey in health and fitness at a young age. I was always one of those kids who just could not sit still - so I was into everything, climbing trees, riding bikes, swimming, sports, you name it I was into it. However my discipline to this way of life came when I discovered basketball, it was when I was about 13/14 and shot up to practically the height I am now, so my teachers said why don't you try and develop your skills as a basketball player as I was taller than most of my teachers at 13 which lead them to think I'd grow to be some kind of 7 foot giant, but unfortunately that didn't happen, would've been cool though.…

This class was actually very interesting and really helped me to open my eyes to the ways in which I have been not focusing on my physical health. When it comes to my present activity level, a lot has changed from the beginning of this class. I have to say that before this class I never made physical activity a priority in my day. I counted walking to class as a form of physical activity, which it was, but not enough. I am a lazy person and would rather be laying around watching Netflix than going to the gym.…
