I am interesting in applying to PLFSOM because I have a desire to ultimately become a primary care physician that works in underserved communities. Coming from a rural area, I know what a lack of providers in a region can do to a community. I have spent a lot of time in border towns since my dads family is originally from Mexico and I have been able to see first hand that even the biggest of border towns still has a very big proportion of their population that is underserved. Right now, I already use my Spanish to help the Spanish speaking patients that we see at our clinic but my Spanish medical terminology is not as strong as I would like. Being able to get my medical education from a school so close to the border would help me become the…

I am interested in teaching at Breakthrough as a Teaching Fellow this summer because Breakthrough is where I discovered my passion. Working with the students as a volunteer last summer, and as a teacher during the 2015-2016 and 2016-2017 school-year program, was something I looked forward to every day as I got to know each of our special students. I discovered that working with kids, who often say exactly what they are thinking and choose to find joy and positivity in all aspects of life, was something I absolutely love and something that makes me truly happy. It is difficult to convey the joy and comfort I find in teaching, and how much I value the opportunity to change a child's life for the better by offering the support they may not have…

While I come from an agriculturally-focused family, my interests as a young boy were divided between aviation and computers. At the age of 13, I began to focus more on my digital hobbies after a neighbor offered to assist me in learning the art of programming. During the next few years, he mentored me in software development using primarily C# with the .NET Framework. In that time, I created a collection of small personal applications and games as I experimented with code and concepts. At age 17, I became interested in interacting with the physical world through the digital one with the use of microcontrollers.…

Since I can remember, I have always dreamt of a career in the business field. This was influenced by what I had been witnessing all throughout my youth. Growing up as the daughter of a European chef and business owner, I have always been surrounded by the complexities, challenges, and excitement of the food industry. It allowed me to observe the functionality a successful business, and has lead me to become involved in our family-owned business, Main Street Grille, as a server, and later as an Assistant Manager, where I carried out more administrative work. Through this work experience, I gained more insight on all aspects of running a business.…

As I reflect on my personal life I value life itself to the point I live each day not knowing what to expect the next day. Positivity is a major factor in all that I do to the point of trying to view all things in a positive way and leaving the negativity out the door.
