I am a Painting I student attending Lakeland Union Highschool and I am in 9th grade. Throughout the semester I completed an acrylic close up of blueberries, an acrylic butterfly stained glass, an oil balloon gradation, an oil still life and an oil 12x12 free choice. I chose to do an oil painting, because I was getting used to the oil techniques. The picture that I chose shows depth as the layout is, an old red van, surrounded by darkish, tall trees that line the road, along with a rail, a mountain in the background and a beautiful sky full of clouds. I chose this picture, because it reminds me of the beauty, road trips, the travel and originality. The picture I chose was very dark and was very vertical. My layout process involved making a grid on my 12x12 canvas showing 4 squares to help me map out my picture. …show more content…
I used four types of brushes throughout my painting that included: a round brush, a pointed round brush, a flat brush and a bright brush. Some techniques I used throught my painting included: blocking color; to get original shape, layers; in the sky and trees, intensified and contrasted my colors, several brush stroke sizes, and informational brush strokes to create a soft texture. My main focus on my painting was the van and the trees. The van needed detail more than anything else in the painting, because it was what made my painting pop. I did short, and energetic brush strokes with my trees and since my picture was so dark I ended up doing a lot of my own ideas. My struggle in this painting is the fact that oil drys slow. Many times I needed to rest my hand somewhere, but was unable to and a lot of times I was oblivious and got paint on the whole side of my hand or on my shirt. It is also hard to do layers when the paint isn’

If two horses were standing next to each other and were completely identical, except for a tiny white marking on one horse’s side, you would likely make the assumption that they were worth similar amounts of money. However, this is typically not the case in the Paint Horse industry. Due to rules put into place by the American Paint Horse Association, or APHA, only two square inches of white coloring can change the value of a horse dramatically. Solid Paint Breds, or horses that do not have two square inches or more of white on their bodies within specific boundaries, have a much lower demand in the industry than Regular Registry horses, or those who do have the required amounts of white. These markings, according the the APHA Rule Book, must be behind a line that runs from…

It is easier to start on a background that is not white, darker colors such as black, brown, and ultramarine blue are washed onto the paper or canvas. This gives a feel of having already started. Recently, paintings have revolved around the combination of soft pastel and oil paint, creating a harmonious image in two fluent mediums. The farther objects are more often done in oil paint and the focus of the painting is done with soft pastels.…

Salvator Rosa, 1615-1673, was an Italian artist from Naples well known for his landscape art within the 17th century (famsf.org). His landscapes often depicted travelers, beggars, peasants, and even bandits in a rough, undomesticated landscape (Allen). One landscape in particular simply named ‘Landscape with Travelers’ painted in 1640 highlights his technique and general story-telling quite well. By using light and shadow he is able to create a message that seemingly need no true narrative as a source of explanation. Rosa used the medium of landscape art to encourage, while simultaneously highlighting, the dangers of travel and the exploration the wilderness (Kosiacka-Beck 266).…

If I were to use oil pastels, I would use the watercolour to do the basis of the work, then use the chalk pastels to draw on the detailing of the portrait. If I were to choose oil pastels, I would use layers of chalk pastels and use terps to smudge the bottom layers of the painting, and then add the detailing with the oil pastels without the terps on top of the layer. I wanted to show the detail on top of the basis layer because I feel that it depicts my subject of my theme best. For each of my pieces I would take an original photo and then draw that on paper. Before using the watercolour or oil pastels I would use pencil as and outline of what I want to do with the work.…

Not being able to see through the painting shows opaqueness and knowing this about the painting is very important to understand the meaning of it. The painting also has layers to it. The closest layer seems to be the clouds on the bottom so that is the first layer. Also, the clouds on the first layers are bright and obvious while the third layers clouds are dark and gloomy. The second layer or middle layer is Thetis and Jupiter with the eagle on the side and this is the most important layer.…

Some of the tricks that will be discussed work better with a particular kind of paint so keep that in mind as progress is made on your work of art. For tempera and acrylic, my favorite thing to do is the glob various colors of paint on a piece of paper, then either fold is in half or lay another piece on top of the sheet with paint on it. Smooth the paint away from the center or crease of the paper and then unfold or pull apart. This must be done quickly so that the paint doesn’t dry with the sheet still together. If it does dry before the sheets are separated the will likely tear.…

Also, the mixture of warm colors on top combined with primary and secondary colors give the painting a delicate effect particularly the three green brush strokes as it adds even more mystery to the painting. Furthermore, the diagonal lines that shape the floor and the barriers of the bridge and the curved lines on the water make a combination of energy and endlessness at the same time because the side of where the scared looking person is, looks completely different from where the water, which is what perhaps reflects the degree of anxiety that the scared looking person was suffering in that particular…
