Economics has triggered reorganization in healthcare roles where positions have been eliminated and responsibilities absorbed by other staff. This has necessitated the need for additional training and in some cases further education requirements for those in a leadership role. There was a study done with ten individuals all who had taken a leadership course in Sweden to identify a method to develop managerial skills focusing on attaining managerial integrity. Interestingly the participants in the study stated that through this experience they gained a much higher level of self-awareness that they felt was the foundation of leadership (Bergin, 2009). A leadership position at times requires compromise, but should never require you to relinquish you values, ethics, or integrity. Health care administrators have a personal and moral obligation for health care in dealing with moral issues and ethical choices on a daily basis (Bergin, 2009). Upholding ethics and integrity influences the quality and safety of the care provided. Bergin (2009), concludes this article with a thought provoking question; “in a healthcare system governed by deadlines, time pressure, and financial resources, is there room for managers to lead with integrity?” I believe if a health care administrator stays steadfast in their values and ethics, they
