They may wish to change their personal or family situation, solve a particular problem, or merely bring a healthier balance to their lives. The counseling process can be inspiring and stimulating. It too, at times, can be very thought-provoking, difficult and even painful. Nevertheless, the objective is to bring about some positive change for you, the client. At our initial meeting, we want to evaluate your current wishes and concerns, and decide if we can collaborate to address them. If we decide to move forward with our agreements, we then assess the results of our meetings periodically-simultaneously, and determine the need for additional sessions, termination, or referral for further treatment or assistance. Throughout our meetings, I will make every reasonable effort to professionally facilitate the resolution of your wishes and concerns. Ultimately, it is you who will then decide if you want to gain from the counseling process find clarity in your life.
Theoretical orientation and approach to counseling: My approach to counseling, while primarily Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), draws from other modalities depending on the groups, and/or the individual client’s needs. You have the right to ask me to clarify my purposes for making certain suggestions or for using certain techniques. You also have the right to decline to follow these suggestions, and/or to terminate the counseling practice at any time and for any reason. I too, have the right and ethical responsibility to terminate counseling and offer referrals if you choose not to follow my suggestions. Either of us may request a final session to discuss the reasons for termination, and to decide on an appropriate referral if preferred. Please inform me if you are seeing another therapist or mental health professional during the course of our sessions, so that we may provide consistent treatment for you.

In general, the law protects the confidentiality of all communications between a client and a licensed professional counselor. Information is not disclosed without written permission. However, there are a number of exceptions to this rule. Exceptions include:
