Youth Practicum Narrative Report

BLOG POST

Walking in the first day, I was very nervous but I felt very excited at the same time for my future. Me and my parents were welcomed into the James River Youth building by a crowd of sophomores that were chanting may name. I saw some familiar faces that i have met over the years and that made it all the more exciting for me. One of my best friends, Daneisha, was one of those faces and she took my picture for my student ID. This was her job because she was in the Communications Practicum her 1st year, but this year she is in the Youth Practicum. {PRACTICUMS: Each JRLC student picks one area to be involved in and to serve in at the church. It is one on one ministry training and mentorship as well as experience in the field that

Being in the missions practicum, we don’t have a place that we can serve on Sundays that really correlates with our practicum. I decided that I would do something out of my comfort zone and volunteer in the kids area on Sundays and serve in Youth on Wednesdays. I didn’t pray about this, I just jumped right in and assumed it was right because it was out of my comfort zone and as christians, we are supposed to "step out onto the unknown waters.” I even talked to a children’s pastor and I was going to help out at the new James River North campus that was opening literally that Sunday. I felt a good feeling about the North Campus. I thought this place couldn’t get any better but then at the first Wednesday night service, I went to the south campus. I was completely expecting to walk into the youth building and just check it out so that I could become a Wednesday night volunteer, and that’s what I did. It is kind of funny because right when I walked in and got signed in, I felt an uneasiness about being there. So I left the youth service and went to the main service. That was the right choice,it was so powerful, from the worship to the word from the pastor, and it is amazing when you are in the place you’re supposed to be, God will put your spirit at ease. After the service, one of the staff members, Savannah Lindell, who I already knew a little …show more content…
This is something I have found to be so true recently. While I was with Savannah, getting to see the process of how she writes, practices, and prays over her communion messages for the Wednesday night prayer services {which is one of the many amazing things I get to watch and learn from her}. Savannah asked me if I would be apart of the Chapel production team! This is a very cool thing because I am a freshman, who literally just got here and I am getting all of these amazing opportunities. So I am apart of that team, where I get the chance to also meet even more amazing leaders in that position when they are preaching at chapel because my job is “front row headset” where I communicate anything the leaders/pastors would want with the people in the back. I also get to handle the mics. and just serve the leaders in any way they ask me to. SO COOL. This week, I was given the chance to give a devotional to my college group and speak to my group before pastor John spoke. God is so good and God speaks through pastor John in such an amazing way guys…like… you don’t even

The interview on "The Remarkable Story of the Battle to Integrate Little Rock's Central High School,” was heartbreaking to watch. This interview is the hard to envision that a child had to endure such horrible treatment. There are a couple of things that really disturbed me about how President Dwight D. Eisenhower responded by sending in soldiers of the 101st Airborne Division to Little Rock's Central High School to make sure the 9 students would be able to integrate with the other students. My heart broke when Melba Pattillo Beals explained being 15 years old and having to run for her life because adults, wanted to hang her and they were actually chasing her and her mother. When she said for the first time in her life her mother slapped her…

For my sixty hours of volunteer work I decided to volunteer at a Child Life Center which was in a poverty stricken area in Norfolk, Va. At the child life center my job as a volunteer was to assist the children with their homework, help the staff monitor the children on local field trips, as well as serve as a positive role model for the children. The experience I had at Park Place Child Life Center was one I will honestly never forget. Although I didn’t get any actual counseling experience, I was able to learn the ways that the non-profit organization received their funding, I was able to gain experience in working with the youth, and I was also able to make a positive impact on the lives of children who were considered “at-risk youth”. To go there every day and be able to see the change the children had in their behaviors and how much just some attention and affection from adults impacted their behaviors was honestly amazing.…

message implied therein was Malcolm had better work his tail off at Keystone or he would be cleaning up after the camels at Broadview. Malcolm was rumored to be thicker than the skin on a pachyderm's fanny, but he was a doctor, and as such, theoretically capable of taking a hint. Speaking no foreign languages and English only poorly, Malcolm had no desire to do his residency at Broadview. Taking Dr. Brown's advice, he worked his tail off from the very first day on the job.…

Although there were many, my most memorable Girls State memory by far was running for office. I ran for state Attorney General. Attaining the position of a state office is extremely challenging at Girl’s State. If you chose to run for a state office, like I did, you have to campaign against 400 other girls. I had to go through many different interviews, including a “rapid fire” Q&A session.…

An experience that changed my life forever was coming to Northwest Christian for high school. Before I attended Northwest I spent all of elementary school and middle school at Rancho Solano. Although my time there was great, it was taught in a strictly academic worldview. Then during my eighth grade year, I made the decision to enroll in Boulder Creek High School. I began to get nervous because of the change in size, but then I started to embrace the idea of change.…

MORGANTOWN, W.Va.--As the second week of Fall Camp is underway, Dana Holgorsen met with members of the media on Tuesday afternoon and discussed the West Virginia University football teams progression. Another player out for the season is freshman cornerback Jake Long, who is going to be sidelined after shoulder surgery. “Maybe could have practiced him but we’re talking about redshirt,” Holgorsen said. “Let’s just go ahead and do it so we have you ready for next year. He’ll be ready for spring.…

On 07/13/2015, I, Officer Tyler Carmichael #136, was working for Wichita State University Police Department as a police officer, 1845 N. Fairmount, Wichita, Sedgwick Co. Kansas 67260. At approximately 1943 hours I was clearing a traffic stop in the 3700 block of east 21st. As I was walking back to my car I noticed a gold Impala drive past with young children in the back seat. I could not see if they were in proper restraints so I followed the vehicle.…

While reading this chapter, it reminded me of the transition from a little kid to a pre-teen. As a child, you are dependent on your parents, like the developing countries depending on first world countries. As you get older however, you become independent of each other. My parents expected me to get good grades, clean my room, do my own laundry, etc. I expected my parents to drive me to soccer practice, pay for school, bills, etc.…

Relationships that we have with people can greatly influence who we are, the decisions that we make as leaders, and the vi-sions that we have for the church body. By nurturing relationships with individuals and teams I can display my passion for God through conversations, my work, and my service to others. I can use my ability of connectedness to help people discover their identity in Christ, and break through the silos of people-groups or church departments. In ministry the ability to adapt is essential.…

Calvary Commission, the seminary that I stayed at, is located a few miles out of town on a land that seems to never end. I could walk miles and still find myself to be on Calvary Commission’s property. The first day I was there, my group and I went on a little hike up to the prayer chapel, which sat on the top of a hill, surrounded by trees, and a bonfire pit stood a few feet away. This was my group’s first real exposure to how great the people at Calvary Commission are.…
