The mountain men were killing a pig. When I saw the innocent pig hanging upside down, I decided I was never consuming meat again.
I told my family. At first, my family thought it was just a phase. My mom is a nurse, so she was concerned about me getting enough protein.
“I just don't know Maddie, it’s a big change,”, my mom said
My mom is always supportive. She was concerned for my health. Both my sister and dad didn’t really have an opinion, but were supportive. I went to school and told my friends about my new “phase”, and they all thought I was not going to stick

In January, 2000 Laura Fraser wrote the article “Why I Stopped Being a Vegetarian” for Salon magazine. Fraser is an author published in several national magazines including The New York Times, Vogue, and O: the Oprah magazine. Attempting to reach an audience of either new or long term vegetarians/vegans, Fraser discusses her journey of changing her vegetarian lifestyle of 15 years to quitting entirely. She happened to write this article in the beginning of the year while most are advancing their new year's resolutions. Perhaps she was trying to convince newly vegetarians or vegans not to continue with their resolutions, or maybe it was all just a coincidence of timing.…

Laughter has been said to be the best medicine of all. This medicine, however, cannot cure the effectiveness of an argument and instead can be seen to poison it in some cases. In Laura Fraser’s “Why I Stopped Being a Vegetarian,” Fraser depicts personal incidents of dabbling in vegetarianism and uses this to assert that people should not be vegetarian and instead decrease the amount of meat consumed. Though humor may then seem to be the appropriate method of conveying her opinion, it is often detrimental towards her argument because it causes her ideas to seem nonsensical and often apathetic towards those who wholeheartedly believe in vegetarianism.…
