Personal Statement Of Purpose: Internal Medicine And Pediatrics

A part of me has always been drawn to children. Perhaps this is due to my mom and sister being teachers at the Middle School and hearing their experiences that I feel compelled to work with children. In spite of this proclivity I have had towards pediatrics and the wonderful experiences I had with children in the past, I have come to realize that a career I cannot imagine a career without treating both adults and kids. A residency program that combines both Internal Medicine and Pediatrics will fuel my passion for medicine while allowing me the flexibility to treat both populations across a wide range of disease processes.

My interests across medicine are vast, and Internal Medicine-Pediatrics encompasses many goals that I have as an aspiring physician. Internal Medicine-Pediatrics assists me as it values extensive inpatient and outpatient training, while allowing for the care of both simple and complex problems in each of my patient’s lives. Given the juxtaposition Internal Medicine-Pediatrics has with the inpatient and outpatient care, this training program will also help me to find the intersection of medicine and public health in my practice.
