Personal Statement Of Purpose: Going To College

Decent Essays
Motivation: Going to college after failing twice before is no simple task. My first run at college I didn’t finish due to not being able to afford college. I was a professional pilot college in Oklahoma. I moved back home to California and went to community college and decided to enlist in military while halfway through the semester, which I eventually had to drop in order to go to boot camp. My motivation is being able to tell my son that I have attained a BA in Criminal Justice. Even though I’ve failed many times, I got right back up and kept pushing to further my education. I want to be a great example of a human being for him, and that is what motivates me.

Purpose: My main purpose was already explained in the section prior to this one. My secondary purpose is to attain a well-paying career for when I decide to end my time here in the US Navy. Also, to use the knowledge that I have attained and use it where it would benefit greatly; schools, detention centers, after school programs, etc. I would love to teach children that the world is bigger than where they are currently.

If I could go back to the past and talk to myself in September 2013, I would tell my younger self to be prepared for the next four years. I would advise myself to plan out my work and actually do assignments ahead of time instead of putting them off until nine o'clock the night before they were due. I would tell myself to not take honors trig because it was too much to handle combined with all of my other classes, as well as saying, that just because it was recommended to take a class, it doesn't mean I should've. I would recommend actually trying to do the workouts for field hockey before preseason. That way it wouldn't be so bad in the future.…

While at a Community College, I have had time to grow and mature into a finer young adult than I came out of High School. I learned to live on my own and take care of myself, while continuing to acquire training and education. It was also a time I took to figure who I am and who I want to be. With that in mind, I have found that I desire to continue growing at a different institution. While I have learned a significant amount of things in my current college and enjoyed every minute of it, I will be graduating from its program soon and wish to explore opportunities elsewhere.…

My Motivation: What motivates me the most to pursue a college degree is that I will be the first person in my family to receive one. My grandmother is the backbone behind this motivation because she was always making sure that academics came first in my life. There was rarely a day that I would come home and she would not ask me questions about my homework, asking what I learned in school, or even looked over my homework. As I got older, she made sure I was a part of a college prep program called AVID from 6th-12th grade and that definitely made a difference for me. It helped me understand the importance of continuing your education and how beneficial it can be to succeeding in life.…
