I see learning as a journey that continues throughout life and nothing would be better for me than learning about the field that I love, which is pharmacy. I am an inquisitive person and have always been fascinated by the process of life and living organisms so I decided to major in Biology. I believe that in order to be a good pharmacist, one needs to have a sound knowledge of the human body and its functions. During my undergraduate years, I learned that Biology and Pharmacy are very connected, learning about the functions of the human body and many living organisms have helped me have a better understanding of how medicines affect the body. In summer of my Junior year, I decided to shadow a retail pharmacist for several days to get a more practical experience. That was one of the best experiences of my life. I believe that volunteering helps us recognize that we are a part of our own community. It creates a spirit of self service, sacrifice and respect for each other 's humanity regardless of race, religion and sex. I have over 150 volunteer hours from being a note taker for students with disabilities to a caretaker at adult day care, mathematics tutor and more. I am currently an undergraduate research assistant working on a project called “Microglia on a Chip.” The objective of this research is to ultimately find the cause of Alzheimer disease and hopefully a cure. Working on this research has made me realize how important it is to find a cure for this so-called incurable condition. It has also exposed me to a lot interesting journals and articles, but above all, teamwork skills. In the course of this research, I have also realized how crucial is the role of pharmacists in helping to develop innovative medicines for diseases that are thought to be incurable. I am a sociable person and speak four languages (English, Farsi, Elementary Spanish and Arabic). I enjoy interacting with people from diverse backgrounds and I believe that pharmacy profession would present me with the opportunity of interacting with a broader and more diverse range of people.
