I moved to the United States from India when I was 5 because my parents wanted me to have a better life. Growing up in an Indian household, I was exposed to both Hindi and Gujarati daily while learning English in school allowing me to be fluent in all three languages.

However, there have been times were being a nurse has limited my voice when it comes to patient care. A situation that stands out is when a visiting doctor tried to give one of my patients a medicine which she was allergic to. When I pointed this out he took offense and said I was just a nurse, and I needed to focus on my job. Although obviously, it is an extreme minority of physicians who think this way, but I believe if I had been a PA, I would have been able to offer the care. Which my patient needed. An unexpected benefit did result from this experience.
