Personal Statement Of A Scholarship Essay

MY JOURNEY Art has always been a passion of mine, but I tried to ignore my calling for a long time. Throughout my life different things have pulled me away from art, but art always finds it’s way back to me. As a young child, I spent my summers painting in the garage. I would go to Michael’s every weekend with my small allowance to buy small 6 by 10-inch canvases and cheap craft smart paint that cost less than a dollar. I poured my heart into every painting, knowing that I have given a blank canvas life. In the 6th grade I started attending State College of Florida Collegiate School. SCFCS doesn’t offer electives in art, therefore my skills began to wan. One night, I was walking on Lakewood Ranch Main Street and spotted an art studio. The studio just opened and I attended their first class. Art had become more prominent in my life with each class I took at the studio. Unfortunately, I dad was laid off 2 years later and my family couldn’t afford classes anymore. Once again, art was put on the back burner in my life. I believe my skills in fine art would make me a great graphic design major. I plan on attending Florida Gulf Coast University in Fort Myers to earn my Bachelors in Digital Media Design. This program speaks to me because you get to learn all types of digital art forms such as video game design, graphic design, web design, and photography while still having the freedom to take classes in fine art such as painting, drawing, and sculpture. I would use this scholarship to pay for the costs that come with college, particularly room and board due to the high price of FGCU’s room and board. I would be proud to represent the WCA if given this scholarship by pursuing a career in art. I want people to know that art is not only a hobby, but also a great
