My Bachelor's Degree: Personal Statement

I was born in the Caribbean Island of Grenada also known as the Isle of Spice. I grew up in a stable household with my parents and an older brother. Both my parents did not have opportunities provided to them to get a proper education but they both worked very hard throughout the years to provide for their family and get to where they are today. As a side gig, my dad repaired computers and other electronic devices in which I would always sit and watch in curiosity. It was this that got me completely fascinated with computers and technology. I learned a lot thereafter by strictly trial and error and by the time I entered high school I was known among my class mates and throughout the neighborhood as the go to computer repair guy. James. Mr. James took me under his wing, trained, and believed in me. I began to see life in different light and developed important life skills such as crucial confrontation, identifying and learning the values of a good relationship, and how to work well with others and as part of a team. This experience was immensely responsible for both my personal and professional development. I became highly motivated for success and worked on career and life goals. I decided that I wanted to become a Software Engineer and acquiring my Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science would be my first major step. However, going to university was not possible at the time due to the financial burdens that would be placed on my parents as my brother was already attending Midwestern State University. Despite a three year setback, I managed to keep motivated while my brother completed his degree, and as soon as it was financially possible, I lunged at the opportunity and attended Midwestern State University in the 2014 Fall …show more content…
I see it as a must in order to achieve academic greatness, a tool for testing my mental toughness and abilities as I would have to exercise great discipline in an effort to maintain the standards and quality of work that has been set by both past and current students alike. I also view it as a way to prepare for grad school. When it is all said and done I don’t want to be a typical every year alumna of the Midwestern State University, I want be a specimen of a success, setting new bars and raisings the standards in everything I do and get the most out of my academic experience from Midwestern State University and its honors
