Decent Essays
My personal sustainability challenge is to reduce waste at home by creating and using a compost bin. In my house we already recycle, so I know I’m capable of taking responsibility to help the environment. Composting will challenge me to further my knowledge about compostable products and waste reduction being dumped in the landfill. I began my challenge in September by using a 27-gallon container in the garden, pitchfork for rotation and a sealed Folgers container for collection under the sink. Tracking the waste isn’t an issue because Dave and I are both aware and consciously using the Folgers container first instead of the waste bin. My Environmental Ethics Growing up in a highly capitalized area, Macau, and being taught the idea that wealth is the ruler of power and status, I learned that I would have to find a job with decent extra benefit and high salary in the future. Until the time I have taken geography and moral education classes in my high school, I started to consider a bigger picture when I was thinking about public policy and my decision making. I knew that what I did could affect anyone around me and possibly the society as well. I did not have any terminology at that time, but if I could bring my knowledge back into the time, I would say my ethic has been shifted from ego-centrism to somewhere between ego- and home-centrism because the ideology grounded in…

Sustainability Earth is a small fraction of the never ending universe, however it is our only way of life and needs to be taken care of. Life as we know it depends on one speck in the universe and that speck can only hold so much. Many people do not think about the actions made and what effects they have on the Earth but it needs to start being a priority. Considering the fact that there is only one planet that has the ability to keep us alive, it is the job of humans to make sure Earth lasts as long as possible and is not used up. As of today, there are over seven billion people and it is estimated that Earth can only handle up to nine or ten billion (Wolchover).…

As I reflect on my personal life I value life itself to the point I live each day not knowing what to expect the next day. Positivity is a major factor in all that I do to the point of trying to view all things in a positive way and leaving the negativity out the door. As a mother, partner, educator, and entrepreneur I strive to be mindful, spiritual, and conscious of all my actions. I value these things because this is what makes up my life and what I live for each day. My life is a fourth generation person and I relate because I “want to live, love, learn, and leave it like a seed with balance and joy" (Covey, 73) the quality of my life is more important than planning it out.…
