As stated by Gamble & Gamble, interpersonal communication is, “the on-going, ever-changing process that occurs when one person interacts with another person, forming a dyad” (pg. 3). With saying that, I believe that this assignment allowed me to better understand the type of communicator and relator I appear to be while learning the importance of interpersonal communication. Every day we are using these skill in order to communicate and interact with other people, whether it is individually or in a group. I have found that those who work on emerging strong interpersonal skills are usually more successful in both their professional and personal lives. One of my goals I had created throughout the semester was dedicated to improving my listening skills. Communication includes many aspects such as writing and talking, as well as nonverbal communication, which includes facial expressions, body language, or gestures. Communication is a vital part of ones personal life and is also important when focususing on business, education, and any other situation where people encounter each other (Lievrouw ,2006). By understanding my strengths and weaknesses within this assignment, I was able to progress and better develop these skills, allowing me to advance as a communicator. Ultimately, I found that people often develop friendships with other individuals who acquire social skills because they have the ability to communicate in a way that cultivates the relationship. When one does not communicate properly, people will seek substitutions to fulfill their needs (Lichtenstein & Rosenfeld, 1983).
