"Professional education is sorely needed in the developing world, but equally important is the capacity to integrate knowledge, to nurture critical thinking and ethical sensitivity and to advance interdisciplinary teaching and research," said humanitarian, His Highness the Aga Khan. These words resonate with me and are the center of my core values towards higher education and research because both are necessary for self-growth and disseminating knowledge to others. As a recent graduate of the University of Texas at Austin, my research, academic, and work experience led me to discover my passion for education. I aim to incorporate the psychosocial research I conducted in various labs and my involvement in extracurricular activities to provide a well-established understanding of the important aspects of educating young children.

I was elected as the Co-Project Manager for the 8th Grade Advisory program that was piloted in the Ismaili Muslim Community in Austin, TX. This program aimed to help 8th grade students and parents with course selection, high school and college readiness, and address other questions and concerns. By managing this program from its inception, I observed that a lot of the students and parents were unaware of high school readiness and the college application process. I discovered that from the beginning of a child’s education, it is fundamental that parents are heavily involved in the student’s educational endeavors. Research has shown that with parental involvement, children achieve higher scores, stay in school longer, and go on to postsecondary education programs. With the rigorous training I will receive from this master’s program, I will hone in on important knowledge to develop ways to get parents to be more fully connected with their child’s
