My True Best Friend

When it comes to friends, I usually make them while I get to know them. It tends to happen if I sit near or somehow find similar interests we can talk about. By no means do I initiate the question about being one. It tends to be that most of my friends are made when they talk with me. That same way happened when I made friends with Thomas Kinman. I’d like to speak about him as one of my true best friend(s). Reasoning behind this is that he was the constant friend I had in school and outside. We met in our last of year middle school though. He also tends to bring out my more confident self when we’re together. From my perspective, I’d like to believe that also I bring a little bit of light and happiness to him. The character Thomas Builds-the-Fire in the book The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fistfight in Heaven tells many different stories of the hardships each Indian on the reservation deals with, and of the how the people on the reservation can handle these hardships. The stories he uses in this book are mostly fictional, but they tell stories in a different way than how your mind actually puts it. He adds a little more magic in his stories to make them sound believable. It is through Thomas’ stories that make people actually think about what happens on and of the reservation. There are also hurricanes in this book that are similar to the Native Americans problems that htey have in their lives.…

The character I chose as the protagonist who changed throughout the story is Victor. He was going through a difficult time, trying to find money to take him to Phoenix, Arizona to pick up some of his father’s belongings that had recently passed away and to say his final good-bye. His initial reaction towards Thomas when he saw him was that he was not too fond of him. As the story goes on, Victor starts changing his opinions towards Thomas. Victor starts off as a disconcerting, closed minded individual towards the idea of Thomas helping him out by lending Victor money.…

A look at the three works, thematically we are brought to the realization of the unspoken Native American culture. An unstated theme of these stories could be the plight of the American Indians and their struggles in the past under the European Colonialism and the conflicts therein with the establishment of a better future. In the Shawl, the healing and restoration theme can be translated by the fact that after the excessive trauma suffered by the narrator’s father, he finally accepts to move beyond the trauma of his childhood (Erdrich, 2014). The narrator relates the story of his grandfather being left by his grandmother who had fallen in love with another man. Eventually, she leaves with the narrator’s aunt.…
