Personal Narrative: My Experience At Prospect High School

Improved Essays
Throughout my attendance at Prospect High School, I have conducted myself in a positive, mature and sensible manner, which includes wearing my uniform with pride and prestige. I have viewed the school values of respect, fairness, integrity, empathy and optimism as a way to model my behaviour in my day to day life as a role model to my peers. Over months past, I have engaged in several extra-curricular positions which have equipped me with the necessary skills for the future. These include being a pro-active member of the SRC, eagerly attending outside of school production rehearsals, attaining my FoodSafe Handlers Certificate and catering for large groups of people outside of school hours many times. Over the course of my time at Prospect High …show more content…
If I was successful in being elected to the Student Leader Board, I would ensure that there is complete transparency between the SLB members and the regular students of our school. Every student would have the capacity to have their voice heard and through due course, their ideas introduced. I will be approachable and easy to talk to which will subsequently result in fundamental changes that greatly improve every students life at school. If elected, I would enjoy the challenges that I would face surrounding these endeavours. Ensuring that all students have a fair go, an easier school life and introducing changes that are effective would be absolutely rewarding in many aspects. ‘By the People, with the people, for the people’, this is the underlying principle of democracy. The election to and time on the SLB is a purely democratic process. If elected, I intend to ensure that all actions taken are; by the people (SLB members/advice from others students on what is most important for them), with the people (feedback provided from students as to how we can better lead them) and for the people (moving forward with more than just fundraisers – ways to improve student …show more content…
To accomplish this, I will set my sights on a number of different ways to improve my leadership that will better reflect the needs of the school. These include a number of high-impact activities, feedback and/or suggestions to improve my leadership, peer reviews among other things. No-one is perfect and that is why it is imperative to learn about what to improve and make real changes to how we operate. In addition, I hope to increase my team-work skills and collaboration with others. I know that membership with the SLB is the way that I can achieve these

I also would like to run for Leadership because I would like to challenge myself. It’s not that I can’t work well with others, but I usually jump to accomplishing most tasks on my own. I earned my first leadership role at the age of two. At that age, I became my sister’s role model. It was up to me to teach her the tricks of the trade for everything-- from tying her shoes to studying for her first math test. Although I didn’t have any designated leadership positions during my early years of high school, it was the similarly intimate, accidental moments of leadership that colored my participation in my extracurriculars.…

Partaking in the student council organization has allowed for personal and leadership growth, and is comprised of plentiful downfalls and successes. But I believe that it requires missteps and prosperity to learn and grow as a leader. In terms of strength, my skills in proper and adequate delegation tasks have contributed to the successes of my class. However, delegating and simply telling others what to do is not leadership, it is the act of collaborating with one another to execute an event or achieve the goal. Ultimately, I believe that it is my ability to uplift and empower others as my greatest asset.…

Over the summer I found myself randomly on the school website searching around, when I stumbled upon it the school budget from 2016. When reading each budget change down to the last penny, I developed a fascination with the board and its drive to establish a healthy educational environment in throughout the district. Students in the Beacon City School District deserve to be heard. My interest in becoming a board member is very high because I believe that engaging more students into school affairs creates a comfortable environment for them to voice their opinions. Also this is a good opportunity to conduct change in my community and, at the same time, learn more about the current issues it faces.…

To vote these students into their positions we used a participatory model, found in chapter four, to create our election process. We agreed that each candidate would give a short presentation and then they stepped out of the room and we put our heads down and raised our hands for the candidate we wanted to vote for. Chapter three and employee development is a factor also, because the sustainability board, sub-group leaders, and general members all need to work together to guide the project and manage each other in a respectable way without being too invasive. This is difficult, but so far, I believe we have all done a fine job and am hopeful it will remain that way. Also, I believe this club will be a good example of inter-shared services…

As I move forward in my career as an educational leader, my aspiration is to emulate the characteristics of a successful leader. Success in education can be measured every day in every school when the beliefs of the leader are reflected in the students and the staff. I aspire to be an innovative leader that motivates people to be courageous and open-minded to tackle the hard tasks. Furthermore, I hope to be a transformative leader that becomes a role-model to their peers by doing rather than saying. My leadership philosophy is one that is rooted in the strong belief that it must be a continuous quest to motivate all students to become critical thinkers, effective communicators, and lifelong learners, while possessing outstanding character. This includes assisting students with discovering their talents and interests, therefore developing a love of learning, while developing into ethical, productive citizens. Accomplishing this requires a leader who is knowledgeable in pedagogy and curriculum, including the use of data and current assessments to enhance instruction, and who possesses outstanding communication skills, the ability to manage an operation’s resources effectively, promotes collaboration and teamwork, and is passionate and committed to helping students learn. I believe that my interpersonal skills will be my biggest strength as an educational leader. Through frequent, honest communication, and my enthusiasm for the subject, I will demonstrate understanding and compassion for those around me, therefore building trusting relationships.…

A normal person might strive to be average, to be the okay for the moment and never truly use their full potential. For a normal person, being in a leadership position can sometimes be too hard, complicated, and stressful if they are not dedicated or prepared. Each of these factors can discourage many people, people who have the potential but not the training or motivation to hold a position of leadership. I, however, believe that I have the potential, the training, and the motivation to do something amazing as the VP of District Four. As I stated, every person has the potential to be a leader, though some stand out more than others.…
