Superior Essays
After looking through the inventories and the feedback I had received about my communication skills, I have found some communication skills I am quite effective at and some I should work on a little bit. My strengths seem to be listening, seeming alert, and being empathetic. This technique is all mental, until I am completely comfortable and am ready to give it a try physically. It’s probably best to practice with a friend before doing this to someone of higher status such as a …show more content…

Then, I need to ask them if what I think is true or not by suggesting multiple explanations. Then, ask which one, if any, are true. Think about this example, during an examination last week, you see your friend looking over at your paper and want to confront him. I would say something like “Hey, during the exam last week, I thought I saw you glancing at my exam. There are a few items I would share with my father about what I have. The first item I would like to explain would be how different an online experience is compared to an in-class setting. His entire college career was spent in the classroom so I think he sees these courses as a gimmick. Accessing the Bethel Online Database (Chambers, 2016) and letting him experience some of the resources first hand should set his mind at ease.…

On the surface I think I am like most students: I take university seriously, I have my own visions for the future that I am determined to make happen, and I do not expect anyone to lead my way. What makes me different from the rest of the crowd though is how I love to take part organizing something for the greater good. During my school years, I have joined several school organizations which has taught me how to work well in team and how to work under pressure. Previous experience has also given me a considerable amount of confidence in my interpersonal communication skills. I look forward to putting this skills and experiences in this Peace tour as a leader.…

    a. What effective communication styles and skills have you observed between social workers and clients? How can you learn these skills? I have observed effective communication between a social worker and a client each time I participate in a session with an experienced social worker. I have observed several communication skills on many different occasions including active listening, taking turns, using open ended questions, paraphrasing, and summarizing skills between social workers and clients to name just a few. While sitting in on sessions with my field instructor I often times find myself amazed at her ability to always say the right thing at the right time, to ask the best questions at the best time, and to lead a client to a targeted…

Throughout the time we have dated, he has always been someone I’ve admired and continuously pushes me to become a better person in all aspects. I wanted to interview him because the story of his company, to me, is pretty commendable and an interesting topic to discuss. Considering we have been dating for over four years, there was no research needed to prepare for this topic; we have discussed his job various times. For the opening, I began by thanking him for agreeing to participate in the interview and taking the time to answer the questions fully and to the best of his knowledge.…

However, I tussle with being direct, which can cause people to get upset when I give them items that need to be completed. I also have a problem with my talkative speed, which leads to miscommunication and difficultly getting points across. To correct this problem, I need to slow down my speed when talking, which will clearly define what I am trying to say. Also at work, slowing my talking speed will allow my co-workers to feel that I am not being so direct, but that I am just explaining what our team needs to get done. If I can “stop and pause for one second-use my thoughts and put them into words slowly,” I will be able to have my audience understand my messages…
