Personal Essay: Pursuing Myself In My College Career

To be able to work and live in another country involves having an array of traits in order to succeed and thrive. Some required traits to work overseas include curiosity and a desire for challenge. Life is all about taking on challenges whether it involves risk, failure, or success. Throughout my college career, I was always curious about fraternities, clubs, and getting the best experience. As a result, I challenged myself to be outgoing and involved in any setting. As my senior year ends, I am proud to be in two honor societies, a fraternity, accounting club and a community service club. Without curiosity, it is difficult for anyone to understand who he or she really are. Curiosity is a gift that involves sitting back and listening to what is going on. Taking on an opportunity to work abroad will not only be a great experience, but it will involve being patient in an unfamiliar country. The pace and culture will be completely different, which is why it is important to ask questions and to be curious when being in a different setting. If selected, I will miss my family, especially my parents, dearly. However, my college career has prepared my ability to minimize that impact. Living at Monmouth University for the past four years will assist me significantly because I am away from them for weeks at times. Also, my personality is stable and strong. I am emotionally stable because I am able to adapt in all different situations, specifically living at Monmouth University. Being flexible in all different settings and cultures will minimize the challenge of leaving my parents. Also, non-verbal communication will be vital being in another country that does not speak much English.
