Although I have areas of strength that will allow me to excel in my chosen career path, I also have areas in my life that need improvement before I join the workforce. The first area of my life that needs development is my communication skills. Recently, I have found that I have trouble communicating to others my thoughts on various topics. During conversations with others, I have noticed that I become flustered and frustrated when I cannot relay my thoughts to the person I am having a discussion with. An example of the pervious occurred last week, while having a discussion with my mother. During the conversation, I was trying to explain to her a description of a military uniform I witnessed at work. Because I had several descriptions in my …show more content…
This activity enables me to improve my communication skills because they focus on listening to what others have to say. By completing exercises similar to the Introduction game, I am also able to become more engaged in learning how to think about the message I want my audience to receive. To increase my level of assertiveness, I can participate in more activities that force my out of my comfort zone. For example, I recently became the secretary of the W.E.B. Dubious Honor Society, an organization that emphasizes scholastic achievement among students and to promote leadership and service to others. This leadership position will enhance my assertive behavior by allowing me more opportunities to speak on issues I would normally remain silent on. Not only do I believe that taking on leadership positions will improve my assertiveness, but I also believe it will increase my self-confidence as well. I have learned from this essay that I have a habit of concealing my thoughts to myself because I fear what others will think of my thoughts. I believe that by learning more about myself through participation in new activities that interest me, such as karate, fencing, and dancing, I would be able to become more confident. The final area of development that I can improve through activities is my decision making processes. This year, I plan to improve this skill by participating in the University of West Florida’s Executive Mentor Program and completing internships with various companies. By participating in the Executive Mentor Program, I am able to receive first hand advice form current business individuals about effective decision making processes. I would also benefit from the program by learning how current business leaders and entrepreneurs

Assessment of The Whole Self The provision of evaluation entails the collection of data to identify, examine, assess, and address the problems, issues, and situations of clients in the counseling relationship. Assessments likewise help in determining what questions to ask and how the resulting information will be utilized in arriving at a diagnosis (Jones, 2010). In order to thrive in an era where successful communication is a central emphasis, I know that I must fix this problem and learn to verbalize my thoughts as clearly as they are reverberate in my head. My goal is simple: I want to overcome this fear that I have and learn to communicate in an effective manner regardless of the newness of the situation. On an ordinary Thursday about a year ago this communication deficit was exemplified. My Dad ordered pizza from our favorite pizza…

Self Reflection I am 28 years old, I live in Las Vegas, I am currently enrolled in a Master’s program, and I am a homeowner. None of the things I have listed would have been possible without my mother’s hard work and struggle. In order to attempt to define myself and explain how far I’ve come, I must first explain where I was born, what my values are and how I was brought up. I was born in Honduras in a small rural town to a 17-year-old single mother.…

An exercise in class allowed me to understand my own reasoning for helping others as well as what may be my own selfish reasons for seeking this profession. For example, at one point in the exercise, I broke ground into my own self-assessment and found insight that I was partially seeking the profession for money and for my savior complex. I felt that this observation of myself showed that I was overall, functioning normally with both healthy and minimal unhealthy motivations. Another concern that came across my mind is when I have a…

I did not want to sign up for this class. Even without others having to tell me so, I knew how poor of a speaker I am. There is almost a checklist that I have to go through every time I give a speech: rapid heart rate, a perceived idea of failing, hands that cannot stop shaking, thinking that the audience just does not care about what I have to say, along with many other belittling thoughts. While I may have not learned very much about how I am as a speaker, I have learned enough to start correcting myself so that I may, one day, become an enthusiastic speaker. This class took what little high school had taught me about speaking and raised it to a level I could not have thought I would have learned in just one semester.…

In this way, I hope to become a leader more personally connected with the team, and one who leads from a position of humility rather than from one of authority. Self reflection is the mental process that acquires knowledge and understanding through thoughts and experience which helps encourage self awareness. This essay focuses on assessing my objectives and how I have developed my skills from the beginning of this semester until now. At the start of semester A, I wasn’t confident in preparing for the skills sessions and workshops. I wasn 't always able to find the correct answers to the workshop questions set which made it relatively difficult for me to participate in lectures despite finding myself at the library every other day. I began by listening to knowledge based lectures online and making notes alongside the recommended reading given by my lecturers or the module guide.…

If you’re willing to work at it, you can rapidly improve the quality of every part of your life” (Brian Tracy quotes, 2016). Over the last month, I have been taking steps to improve my communication skills. First I decided to practice giving driving directions to people.
